21st Annual Easter Egg Hunt Draws 80 Prizes

In Batavia area the Frank W Weaver American Legion Post hosts the 21st Easter Egg Hunt on SR 32 east of the village starting April 1 at 2 p.m. The Clermont Courier and 49 local sponsors provide 80 prize eggs among 1 000 hidden by Legion members for children ages 5 to 10 in three age groups.

Eighth Highway Fatalities Rise in Clermont Area

Clermont reports eight highway deaths this year with three recent losses including a mother and daughter. Helen Hackathorne 59 and Joyce Hackathorne 21 of Cincinnati died from crashes with Terrence Corbin 29 of Amelia. Pattie Lees 11 of New Richmond and Douglas Roy 6 of Remington also died in separate wrecks.

Injured Patrolman Improves After Serious Crash

State Highway Patrolman Keith J. Showalter, 24, former Milford High School graduate, shows improvement after a crash on St. Rt. 28 near Mulberry Baptist Church. He suffered six broken ribs, a removed kidney, and a ruptured spleen. He was en route in pursuit when the cruiser hit a utility pole in rain. he is treated at Christ hospital in Cincinnati. His twin brother, Marine Sgt. Richard Showalter, flew home from Okinawa.

Autopsy Ordered In Death Of Amelia Man

An autopsy ordered by Dr. Nick Capurro Clermont County Coroner is expected to confirm spot remover inhalation as the cause of death of Carson Lee Hopper 20 found dead in his auto behind Amelia Elementary School. Authorities say the car engine ran and a bag with napkins and spot remover bottles was found on his lap. Services were held at E C Nurse Funeral Home with burial at Lucy Run Cemetery. Hopper survived by wife Lorraine Day Hopper a daughter Corinna and his parents Homer and Delores plus five brothers and 10 sisters.

Grant Tabloid Copy Deadline Set April 5

The U S Grant Memorial tabloid to appear in six area newspapers aims to publicize the 150th anniversary celebration at Point Pleasant from April 27 to 30. Margaret Jamieson of the Courier led the project with a life summary of the general and president and photos. advertising is largely ready and copies must be submitted by April 5.

Fire destroys Smith House in Camp Dennison

Huelet Smith Jr. home at 7884 Ohio 126 Camp Dennison burned at 6 p.m. last Friday causing about 10000 dollars in damage. Fire chief William Schunk reported the roof was ablaze on arrival. Two firefighters were overcome by smoke. Defective wiring is blamed.

Milford Florist Opens With Fresh Arrangements

A new flower shop in Milford, located at 20 Cemetery Road, opened public access on Saturday March 25. Marilyn Williams named manager will greet customers daily from 9 30 a.m. to 5 30 p.m. The shop offers cut flowers corsages planters and custom artificial flower arrangements.

Rutledge Elected CIP President

John H. Rutledge was elected president of Community Improvement Programs Inc at the March 16 board meeting. He succeeds D Gerald Lach who becomes chairman of the board and relinquishes administrative duties.
