Ohio historical societies set April meetings in Columbus

The Ohio Historical Society and allied groups will hold joint annual meetings April 19-20 at The Southern Hotel and The Ohio Historical Museum in Columbus. A banquet titled A Meal Fit For Presidents will feature a historic menu including dishes associated with Caroline Harrison Lucy Hayes Lucretia Garfield Helen Taft and Florence Harding.

Foreign Student Is PTA Speaker MISS OUT

Holoapainen, an American Field Service student from Finland, will speak at Batavia High School about her experiences this year. The Batavia PTA meeting date changes to Thursday April 4 at 8:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. The Batavia senior class of 1968 will be introduced. Rev. John Petrie will give the invocation.

Night club permit suspended for William A Painter

The Ohio Liquor Control Commission suspended the Nine Mile Tavern permit of William A Painter for 14 days. The suspension runs from noon March 2 to noon April 4 due to the Sunday sale of intoxicating liquor at the club near New Richmond on US 52 and Nine Mile Road.

PTA Sponsors Package Plan for Viet Vet Aid

Amelia Elementary PTA adopts a package plan to ship aid to Vietnam service members from the Amelia area. At least two packages weekly will include medicated powder, shampoo, soap, wash cloths, magazines, candy, cookies, cheese crackers, and cracker jacks. First package goes to Airman 1/C Michael Hensgen. donations or names of service members can be given to Mrs. Havens. Bids for road improvement in Pierce Township near Nine Mile Road due April 1 at 10 am by Clermont County Commissioners.

Volunteers Sought for Clermont Head Start Program

Car Hits Pole Triggers Two Hour Power Outage

A Mor gantown West Virginia man, Harry W Minor age 24, lost control on US 50 west of Minor and struck a utility pole causing a two hour outage in six Clermont and Brown County communities. State Patrolman R F Boehm reported the 1 10 a m accident and Minor, who was eastbound, escaped injury. The affected villages were Mt Crab Monterey Marathon Fayetteville Williamsburg and Edenton.

New Richmond OKs Purchase of Shotguns

New Richmond village council approved buying 12 gauge riot guns for the police department to augment arming of personnel. Chief John Van Camp said arrangements with Clermont County Sheriff’s office in Batavia will handle breathalyzer tests. two officers are being trained.

Clermont Health Board Names New Commissioner

J. B. Whitt of New Richmond announced the Clermont County Board of Health appointed a new commissioner to the 17000 post. The appointee succeeds Dr. Albert W. Van Sickle who resigned last October to join health work in TM Forces then served in the Navy and Army and earned a University of Minnesota Medical School degree. The health official has focused on tuberculosis prevention and public health. The Clermont County Safety Council will meet April 2 at 3 30 p m in New Richmond High Library per Tom Erhart.

CNE To Seek OK On 12-Mill Levy

The Clermont Northeastern Board of Education votes to place a 12 mill total levy on the May 6 primary ballot, renewing 7.1 mills and adding 4.9 mills to fund operating costs. The district’s current 26 mill rate remains higher than nearby districts, with 18.2 mills for operating the lowest in the county. The board says the increases are needed to maintain standards and fund program improvements amid rising costs, with a $1,141,000 general fund budget.

The Union Township Zoning Commission schedules a public hearing for April 17 on a request to rezone 14 536 acres east of Buxton Road from residential to light industrial. Cler mont Industrial Parks Inc seeks the change near Buxton Road and Clough Pike. Batavia Grange hosts a pot luck supper April 4 at 6 30 p m at the Batavia IOOF hall to honor the group anniversary.

Local Farmers Demonstrate With Mass Hog Slaughter

Clermont NFC President Stanley Mhardt reports 50 hogs were sent to mass slaughter as a protest over low farm prices. The event on Richard Rolfe farm near Sabina saw over 600 hogs killed and dumped after NFC members shot them when packers refused 23 cents per pound.

Ray of Hope poster sparks Cured Cancer event

Mrs. Faye Eckart of Williamsville conceived the Ray of Hope idea and Mrs. Charlene Woods of Mt. Carmel designed the poster for the American Cancer Society Cured Cancer conference decorations. Assisting are Mrs. John OFlinn, Mrs. James Sheets, and Mrs. Robert Furlong. Attendees include ACS unit director Mrs. Ernest C Friedrich and Mrs. Floyd Smith and patient Mrs. William Vinnage Clermont. Yellow carnations to be sold in Clermont on May 10. An Ohio ACS Division Merit Award was given to Mrs. Eckart and the local unit for last year’s event.
