Batavia to Open Sesquicentennial With Flag Ceremony
Batavia marks its 150th year with a Saturday parade from Batavia High School to the Municipal building. The 1:30 p.m. program to dedicate the official sesquicentennial flag includes Mayor Jamieson, State Representative Wilson, and community leaders. Wooden nickels will circulate as legal tender until July 27, with at least 70 merchants participating.

County Home Site Chosen for North South Skirmish Event
County commissioners approved using a field at the County home on Rt. 222 as a camping and exhibition site for the North South Skirmish Association during the Batavia Sesquicentennial celebrations in July. Commissioners OK Repairs To Flood Damaged Bridges
County Engineer Carl H. Bush was authorized by county commissioners to repair bridges damaged March 9 by flood waters. Abutment on Belfast Owensville Rd at Titus Rd and slab top bridge on Garrison Sperling Rd will be replaced. The Stonelick Williams Corner Rd bridge was expected to reopen Wednesday.

Mt. Carmel maintenance supervisor Russell Simmons told Glen Este PTA safety chairman Bill Braselton that a signal light will be installed at the old Rt. 74 Mt. Carmel Rd intersection with Rt. 32. The PTA gathered about 1,009 signatures asking four way lights at top of R. C. Hill, site of many accidents. Officials viewed traffic two months ago and again the next night, then forwarded the request to Columbus for a decision on light type.

Flood Waters Yield Missing Mayor's Body
The body of John R. Anderson 54 former mayor of Newtown was recovered from a field west of Newtown Rd by Patrolman Arthur Schneider and William Burdsal. His car washed off the road by flood waters from the Little Miami River on March 9 and recovered March 17. Memorial services were held at Hyde Park Community Methodist Church. He leaves wife Sue Anderson and two children Judith Anne Siple and John R. Anderson Jr.
