Death of Mrs James Yancey in Cincinnati
James Yancey a leading colored businessman left Batavia Monday to attend his wife who suddenly fell ill. She lingered in great suffering until Wednesday evening when she died in Cincinnati at about 84. Funeral and burial in Cincinnati Friday. She was a devoted wife and mother with two grown daughters and was prominent in colored circles.

Potatoes Thrown At Crowded Levee in Newtown
Frank Wetstone, a Newtown farmer, sold eight barrels of potatoes to Cincinnati last week but failed to received payment. He drove to the levee and threw the potatoes at the assembled colored crowd, drawing police attention after exhausting his supply. A Christian Endeavor sock social slated for Milford's Odd Fellows hall tomorrow night features a graded admission scale based on sock size with luncheon and entertainment included.

Clermont Detectives Nab Cart Thief After Trail to Hill's Farm
Loveland horse thieves unit quickly chased a theft from Clermont. David Brooks, alleged cart thief, confessed after authorities recovered the chopped cart pieces buried on Henry Bergman’s Guinea farm and in a hollow on the Oud Williamson property. Brooks, moved from Indiana, pleaded guilty and was jailed in Batavia after the six mile recovery trek.
