County commissioners asked for bids for medical services at the infirmary and jail. Dr. Griffith bid $250 and Dr. Van Horn $102. Delayed mail and late bid opening led to the award to Griffith, costing the county $148 in the mis-timed process.
The Farmers' and Merchants Bank of Williamsburg organized Tuesday as a State Bank and opened today with directors T. G. Foster as president E. S. Moorehead as vice president J. F. Knight J. C. Fuhr Geo Brintzinghoffer E. J. Hutchinson W. T. Elrod C. H. McS Nut t Arthur Ruffner J. B. Cover as cashier.

Joseph Davidson age 12 riding home from Amelia on a Greenwood farm near Lindale took a risk to show off stunts. He signaled a passing interurban car on the pike line and could not clear the horse, which was killed by the collision. Davidson escaped unharmed. The father reprimanded him for the dangerous act.

The State Public Utilities Commission granted Hillsboro Cynthiana and Chillicothe Traction Co. permission to issue 500000 dollars in stocks and 1800000 dollars in bonds to build the Hillsboro to Chillicothe road. All that remains is disposing of the securities, with prospects good for their sale.
On March 11 Clin ton county recorder filed a mortgage for 68 260 000 by the Baltimore and Ohio R R to Central Trust Co of New York and James M Wallace trustee The 188 page instrument details the issuance of 20 year gold bonds at 439 percent and must be recorded in each county the road passes through
Mrs Bonanza Hughes wife of Elmer Hughes died at her Market Street home Friday at 1 30 pm after Brights disease. The Ba tivia resident leaves a husband mother and sisters. She was a Methodist and highly respected. Funeral from the M E church Sunday at 1 30 pm with Rev Martin officiating, burial in Union Cemetery. Age 89.
Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce figures show 678,448 horses and mules worth $1,381,914,000 sent to Europe for Allied armies in 18 months. In 1918 about 30,000 were moved, and after war began shipments rose to 80,000 monthly. Last October 56,000 were shipped. average price above $200. Power vehicles reduce horse service in cities.
The assessor starts on April eight, receiving instructions and supplies from the county auditor. Our former citizen George R. Griffin, owner and editor of the Owen County Democrat in Spencer Indiana, won the May 7 primary for joint representative from Owen Greene and Sullivan counties. He defeated his opponents by about two to one, and many friends express gladness at his success.
Mr and Mrs L W Short of Amelia celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary with about 80 friends. A noon dinner and decorations marked the day. Their health is good. Daughters Mrs L M Cochnewer and Mrs James Smith attended. Lawrence Cochnewer and family observed their tenth anniversary nearby.

The Department of Commerce issued a circular urging saving both paper and rage to prevent a threatened shortage of pap er making materials. A large portion of daily waste paper should be reused, the circular says. The paper saving effort was suggested by paper manufacturers themselves, and the department will connect inquirers with manufacturers.
