Tax misstep costs forty-one dollars in stamps

County Treasurer James Fitzpatrick faced a loss of 41 dollars after a mix up with one dollar stamps mistaken for one cent stamps. Carl South of Nash's Drug Store bought cosmetic stamps from the treasurer and used them on 41 items that were sold, while 49 stamps were later returned.

Jury Commission Sets March 23 to Draw April Term Juries

The County Jury Commission chaired by Mrs. B F Swing of Bethel and Joseph Colonel Jr of New Richmond will meet Friday March 23 with prosecutor clerk and sheriff in presence of Judge White to draw juries for the April term of Common Pleas Court. The grand jury comprises 15 names and the petit juries 24 names each for 21 days. The full list is supplied by the County Board of Elections every two years from electors voting then.

Confessed Auto Theft by Lisbon Youths

Ralph McCure and Arthur Lahon, both 18 of Lisbon, stole a car at Salem last week. They headed toward Cincinnati via the A P Highway and stopped for gas at Higginsport before being captured below New Richmond by Marshal Joe Colonel Jr and L N Goetz. They were jailed at Batavia, then returned to the theft scene with confessions.

Straw Vote Shows Heavy Opposition to Court House Bonds

Farm Bureau officers led county meetings urging bond issues for the new court house. Public turnout was light and the proposal, to issue bonds for the county share, appears a heavy loss. Reported tax impact estimated at about 850 on the 1000 tax duplicate with more meetings planned.

Peter Rabbit operetta delights town hall crowd

The Peter Rabbit operetta at the town hall last Friday drew a large audience with children’s performances led by Atheridge Baugh and 90 children. A Mt. Carmel Minstrel Show followed by the Mt. Carmel PTA drew a crowded house, the two hour event praised for community spirit.

Committeemen Named By Tobacco Growers Districts

Six hundred contracted growers met and elected district committeemen to verify contracts. Bethel district chose Earl Groppenbacher as chairman with Ellis Wolf and Elmer D. Binning. New Richmond district selected John Cann as chairman with Turner Taylor and Stephen Alke. Laurel district elected Walter Smith as chairman with John Smith and William Harvey. Moscow district chose Guy Jones as chairman with J C Browning and R S Phillips. Felicity district elected Roland McKinney as chairman with Ed Swope and Chas Gelter. Owensville district named Arnold Ansteatt as chairman with Chas Ansteatt and Ecten Myers. Each district chairman will join the County Board of Control.

Clermont county has been allotted a State liquor store with John Richey of Felicity as manager. Ohio Attorney General Bricker states that the dry local option remains in effect for beer sales in municipalities townships and districts under the original beer law. CCC Begins Six Week Tree Planting Drive in Clermont County

The CCC Camp at Bethel plans to plant 110000 trees on 85 acres across 18 farms in 8 of Clermont county's townships. Work started in December with 160 men preparing sites and building stone log and brush dams. No charge for labor or materials. farmers only supply fencing wire.
