Daffodils bloom in Clermont County March 26 to 28 as the American Cancer Society unit teams with Bethel and West Clermont junior women’s clubs and volunteers to raise funds. Freshly shipped daffodils symbolize hope, with $3 per bouquet and delivery on four or more orders after advance calls to 732-1454.
Batavia First United Methodist Church announces traditional chocolate Easter eggs for sale. Easter eggs in five flavors will be ready April 8, offered at one dollar each, with orders via Maude Horn or Lida Lytle. Church will open April 6 to 10 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. for additional sales.

The Glen Este High School Trojanettes winter guard drill team placed second in the military drill class at Valley View regional indoor contest on March 7 qualifying for the state and national events at the University of Dayton March 28 29. The band, directed by Robert Hoeflinger, earned second in the musical portion and shows strong competitive performance across all events.
Clermont County solicits bids for site work and utilities at the SR 222 justice complex. Forty seven bids were filed with low plumbing bid by Charles H. Hamilton Co. of Mainville at 199 596 and high bids climbing to 368 500 for other scopes.
Clermont County officials hired Robert A. Jones, a former county prosecutor, as lawyer for the sewer district to secure quick responses from the prosecutor's office. Jones, who retired in 1980 after 16 years, will be paid $50 per hour up to 472 hours annually, not drawing from the county general fund.
Clermont commissioners awarded financing for the Nine Mile Sewer project and accepted bids for the treatment plant after EPA Region V approval by phone, with telegram follow up. Rhoades Construction protested. Shook Inc. won the treatment plant bid at 2.189 million, while the county funds 3.015 million for the collection system.
Batavia Council recently approved an Urban Development Action Grant to help finance the Ashbrook Building on the Clermont Hotel site. The grant cannot proceed due to insufficient backing at this time. The Ashbrook project will be revisited for opportunity, with the Planning Commission continuing to monitor and contact.
Bradley Brown of Carmel was convicted in Clermont County Common Pleas Court for the 1980 shooting death of his father Russell Brown at 620 Cincinnati Batavia Pike. Visiting Judge Thomas Dowd sentenced him to an indeterminate term after a prior insanity plea and a retrial prompted by new mental state evidence.
Clermont County Human Services Board plans to continue the Youth Services Drug and Education program for a third year. Martha Dorsey, the executive director, told commissioners that 14,411 junior and high school students will receive education through drama, skits, discussions, and materials, with 936 students already hearing lectures.
A Clermont County landfill dispute reaches court with Judge Hill ruling that state law bans local zoning for hazardous waste facility operators. The case centers on Jackson Township charges claiming zoning violations at 5092 Aber Road in Williamsburg. The 211 acre site runs a sanitary dump and a secure toxic waste unit operated by Clermont Environmental Reclamation Co. formed by Harold Flannery and Lou Wanger in 1970.
