The Loveland family of Dr. Wm. Scott recounts Duke a small black spaniel famed for sagacity and endurance. For six years he rode beside the doctor, guarding Edith on the way to school and meeting her at dismissal. He braved horses, buggies, and dogs, with an estimated eight hundred patrols, returning only when the doctor does. After swallowing poison he recovered, and the tale warns owners to keep a dangerous dose of chloral away from pets.

Calvin Moorehead, a 65 year old veteran of Williamsburg, died at home after a week of illness. On his final evening a pension check arrived for 147 dollars. he signed it for his wife as a last act of love and passed away at sunset, his final payroll closed by death.
A suit against stockholders of the Columbus and Maysville railroad now Hillsboro branch of the Ohio and Northwestern on statutory liability was decided in favor of part of the creditors. About 3500 dollars in claims were allowed, implying a 25 percent assessment. Some creditors will pay, others will appeal to the court of last resort. He is described as stout 45 with dark hair and good talk.
J. H. Orebaugh buys the Bethel mill site for $1,000 and will erect a new building with roller process machinery. He pledges a reliable mill for Bethel and will continue operating the Batavia mills, welcomed by local residents.
William Smyser of Point Pleasant was found unconscious on Longworth street Monday night with a severe scalp wound and facial injuries after being likely knocked down and robbed. He was taken to the hospital by patrol wagon. Executors B F Zugg and BE Prather of W T Dixon's estate will hold a public sale at Chile on Saturday April Jel offering household and kitchen furniture and stock.
