Clermont hearings set on half percent county tax

Clermont County Commissioners schedule public hearings on a 0.5 cent sales tax active in Clermont County with two sessions at Goshen High School on March 15 and Glen Este High School on March 22. If approved, it could raise about 1.2 million annually for capital projects including a new detention center. Batavia event features Cincinnati Councilman and former mayor Gerald Springer addressing the Ole County Young Democrats on April 19 at CG&E Auditorium.

Antique show to benefit Clermont County Hospital in Batavia

The first annual antique show and sale will be held at Ohio State Armory Batavia on April 7 and 8. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Furniture china glass and various collectibles will be shown. Donation is $1. Call 528-1717 for information. Sponsored by The Clermont County Hospital Guild.

Cougar's Spring Roundup Carnival at Clough Pike Elementary

The PTO plans a March 31 carnival from noon to 6 pm at 808 Clough Pike Elementary. Fifteen homeroom booths offer games crafts plants bake sale and garage sale with an outdoor Moon Walk. A color portable TV will be raffled as songs sandwiches and drinks are served. Proceeds aid the playground.

At Clermont County Public Library Batavia on March 24 at 9 30 am three films will be shown free. Sound of Music at Amelia High School

Amelia High School presents The Sound of Music on April 20 and 21 at 8 p.m. in the cafetorium led by Amy Steidel as Maria and Rodger Godby as Captain Von Trapp. Other cast members include Kelly Huntington, Bev Frazier, Tim Ragan, Bill Scharber, and Lynn McCormick with younger children by area elementary students. Water district in financial trouble in Clermont County

Clermont County Commissioners authorize 1.8 million in waterworks certificates of indebtedness as water bills are expected to rise. Commissioner Reckers cites financial problems for the sewer district. Aqua Tanks offered a bid with no price increase but larger size. supplier bids include asbestos cement PVC ductile iron and cast iron pipes.

Fairfax plant to close mid 1980 Ford to survey workers

Ford Motor Co will discontinue FMX transmission production at the Fairfax plant in mid 1980 and transfer impact to Batavia Transmission Plant. A survey will determine how many of the 1750 Fairfax employees seek Batavia or Sharonville transfers, with seniority preserved for movers. Local 863 notes possible programs but expects a temporary closure.

Goshen's Mike Holcomb Wins State Heavyweight Title

Goshen High School senior Mike Holcomb won the Class AA state heavyweight wrestling championship in Columbus at St. John’s Arena. He pinned Dan Kimball of Watterson in 3 minutes 40 seconds, finishing his season 30-0 as he claimed his third win en route to the title.
