James H. Slade Dies at 74 in Elk Lick Home
James H. Slade known as Dick Slade died at his Elk Lick home Sunday at age 74 after months of ill health. He spent most of his life farming and is survived by a widow, two daughters and one son. Funeral Tuesday from his daughter Mrs Milton Ireton's home, with interment in Union Cemetery Batavia.

Lightning Strikes Farmhouse After Cottonwood Tree Fire
A Sunday electrical storm struck the yard of Mrs. Laura Hitch when a lightning bolt hit a cottonwood, jumped to the power line and entered the house. It knocked out 23 of 27 bulbs, ignited a lead water pipe where a comfort was laying, and escaped through a knot hole. Miss Lillian Robinson found and extinguished the fire. no one in the house felt the shock.

Obituary of Lucien M. Davis A long ministry ends in Troy
Lucien M. Davis born April 1845 at Mt. Washington Ohio served as a minister for 88 years with a breakdown in 1879 and a civil finish in 1909. He married Maggie Whitaker October 19 1875 at Moscow Ohio and had two children Allen and Silvia. Davis died March 6 after three weeks of illness in Troy where he resided with his sons after retirement.

Dispute Over State Piked Funds for Clermont County Project
On December 15 1918 steps began for a three mile State pike from Batavia to Olive Branch, with March 14 1917 as the current date of completion. The State claims Clermont County owes 9000 for contractor Tanner, while the county says no such obligation exists. A final 22 521 32 resolution from July 22 1914 shows county share but auditors dispute its validity and a lawsuit seems likely. Angie's Quiet Passing Ended Long Marriage in Batavia
Angie B Moore widow of John L Moore died after brief illness at her Batavia home on March 5 1917 aged 72. Born February 23 1844 she remained a church member from girlhood joining the M E church. She and John L Moore married March 20 1861 and had four children. six decades of married life were celebrated May 28 1914. Surviving children, homes, and social work with the Home Missionary Society and M E Guild marked her kindly life. Her memory closes with a poem and note of quiet sorrow. In Jamieson Block Jenkins Allison sold the general store to Wiseman Mofford with Wise man from Periitown and Mr Mofford operating at Mt Crab. possession by April 1.

Auto turns over near Stonelick
Frederick Dewey and companion, Detroit agents for the Ford, were driving near a bridge when the road gave way and the Ford fell about 15 feet. The car turned over damaging the top and windshield but both men escaped with slight injuries. W. B. Lies of Batavia aided and helped them regain their trip to Detroit.

The Busy Bee Embroidery Club met at Miss Carrie Dodsworth's Fair Oak home on Friday March with fourteen members and five guests. Hazel Dolen presented a piano solo, Dodsworth read a poem Don’t be in Hurry, Fannie Dolen read Aunt Jerusha's Will, and Hattie Ludlow delivered two readings. A Shirt Waist contest followed before a second musical piece by Hazel Dolen. The gathering included a two course lunch and social time.
