Deserter Arrest Follows Local Draft Mobilization
On March 5 thirteen men were ordered to report for mobilization to Camp Greenlief. Jesse A. Riley of Felicity refused to report and was arrested March 8, then delivered to Ft. Thomas Kentucky. He is now classified a deserter and warned others to report when called.

A Clermont county farmer reports testing corn at 100 percent germination after exposure to extreme cold while other sacks germinated poorly. James Hawkins Died After Brief Illness At East Batavia
James Hawkins died at his East Batavia home Monday morning after a brief pneumonia illness. He left a widow and three children Dorothy Howard Linton, with Howard and Linton in training at Camp Sheridan summoned home. Funeral at 2 p m today from the residence. Aged 62. John W Hauserman of New Richmond, long in Manila on business, sailed last week and expects to reach home about April 10.

Soldiers at Home From Camp Sherman Visit Clermont

Wind storm tears roof at Odd Fellows building
During Saturday night winds tore off part of the iron roof of the Odd Fellows' building creating several large holes. About eight years prior a section of the roof was blown away during an anniversary meeting held inside. The roof was installed about 30 years ago by Townsley and Robinson, local builders.
