The inauguration in Washington D C last Friday drew a large crowd from his party. Weather was ideal and the event moved smoothly. He immediately began work and is seen as the right man for the job to handle difficult problems. Read his message on another page.
The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation calls on communities in Clermont County to raise a set quantity of corn, proposing one and a half percent of the crop and carload shipments per station. The aim is rapid dispatch with free freight, with local designated coordinators to handle delivery.
County superintendents met with one absent. The next County Association convenes in Batavia on Saturday April 2. The County Institute is planned for Felicity in August with 100 percent attendance urged. Basketball tournaments, fair exhibit, and Owensville Field Meet in Owensville May 14 are all arranged with full participation expected.

Water mains in Batavia sprung leaks near the old Teal hotel and Dr Belt’s corner. Milford may gain a new bungalo apron manufacturing site bringing jobs for women and girls.
Batavia boys beat Milford 66 to 14 and Batavia girls won 16 to 12 as both home teams dominated. With the tournament set for March 26 a large crowd is anticipated and preparations appear underway.
Dr William Scott born near Goshen Ohio September 33 188 and died at his Loveland home February 21 1921 at age 77 years 4 days He was a druggist and physician who served Loveland as clerk mayor treasurer and on school and town building committees He was married to Lydia L Shane and had four children including Robert W Scott surviving with grandchildren two siblings and a Los Angeles based sister The funeral was held February 23 at his home Evergreen cemetery Miamiville Ohio marked by remarks from Rev Walker and a 80 year old friend W B Applegate letter praising his life
Former Batavia resident Mrs Belle Faul dies at home in Berea after long illness aged 88. She leaves one daughter Miss Mina Faul. Burial to be held in Batavia today Wednesday.

Thomas W Hill died February 1 1921 at age 81 after a long life in Belfast Clermont County Ohio He served in the Civil War 1861 1864 in Company O 2nd OYI lived near Belfast most of his life and remained active in the Methodist church He is survived by L L Hill and other relatives and was a longtime member of Killpatrick Post No 189 GA R Goshen Ohio He valued faith and works and hosted pastors at his home with his barn ready for the preacher’s horse.
Arthur Elliott Miley born April 8 1829 in Bata township Clermont County Ohio died February 21 1921 at age 91 10 18 His life spanned Civil War service in the 75 000 call and three years in No 5th O V I and a federal Treasury post at Washington D C He married Elizabeth Fairbanks in 188 and Kate Keating later in life He was a Methodist and a devoted comrade at reunions His funeral was held at Amelia Ohio with burial in Lucy Ran Cemetery beside family members
Three colored hold up men named Ernest Freeman of North Carolina Andrew Bingham of South Carolina and Mack Dennis of Philadelphia were indicted by the grand jury in Batavia after confessing at Branch Hill Squire Applegate and Sheriff Rapp brought them there They confessed before Judge Joseph on Tuesday and were sentenced to the Ohio penitentiary for attempted assault after scaring Sid Cox near Loveland last week.
Washington March 4 Frank B Willis today began his regular six year term as U S Senator from Ohio after serving the unexpired term of President Harding who resigned January 8 to prepare for the presidency. Willis brings nearly two months of Senate experience to the chamber.
Ray Williams was arrested Saturday night by the marshal for a village ordinance violation. An affidavit was filed under the Crabbe Act and on guilty plea he received a fine and costs totaling $108.60. He was released to arrange payment. This marks the township's first arrest under the new prohibition law.
Loveland faces a severe housing shortage with residents moving to Branch Hill while retaining jobs in Loveland. Speculators may need to build homes to house renters, a trend echoed in Batavia and other county towns as surplus capital sits in non-taxable assets. J Fielding Dial aged 77 cashier of the Batavla First Nation al Bank died at his home Saturday after a brief illness. He served 52 years at the bank and was treasurer of the Methodist church. Survived by a widow and one son. Funeral was held Tuesday at 2:30 from his residence with burial in Union cemetery. a Civil War veteran and a respected local figure.
The Batavia brick plant is being stripped of iron and fire brick and shipped to Zanesville where Moores-Coney Co operates a large plant. Buildings will be wrecked and brick and second hand lumber sold. Thousands of brick to be sold. site near N. & W. road and State pike offers factory potential. Once Batavia’s leading enterprise, it employed 40 to 50 men.
The Batavia area moves toward forming a National Guard company with over half of the required recruits already signed up. The armory hosts daily enlistment, with Friday night from 7 to 9 30 pm set for county wide enlistment and organization. Captain Rudolph pushes the effort as state authorities urge the establishment. By Tuesday noon 45 have signed and a muster is planned for Saturday evening.
Health Commissioner Ireton and county nurse Mrs Heidlebaugh finished work at Milford and moved to New Richmond schools Monday. Examinations will take about two weeks. Parentsare urged to have children examined for vision glasses tonsil removal and other health treatments.
The Batavia bridge floor at the foot of Main Street, recently renewed with oak covering last summer, has deteriorated to dust. The tar and crushed stone layer has ground to powder, leaving three inches of damp dust that threatens wood decay. concrete covering is proposed as a solution.

Fertilizer grades and quantities for Clermont County will be discussed with many local fertilizer agents attending. University soils specialist Mr Dustman notes higher fertilizer use may be profitable. The Clermont County Horticultural Society will reorganize at Batavia on March 15 at 1 P M to aid apple growers. State University specialist Mr F H Beach will attend. County Sheep and Wool Growers Association planned for Batavia on March 17 at 1 P M with J F Walker of the Ohio Sheep and Wool Growers Association as speaker. Last week two tobacco sales were held at the Batavia warehouse with Tuesday Friday schedule to begin this week. Monday and Friday auctions drew strong bidding on a common quality lot and total offerings exceeded sixty thousand pounds. A county survey found substantial old tobacco in storage and a sale is set for Tuesday March 15 to move the old crop.
