WPA workers in Bethel sew 1287 garments for relief

Cler mont county WPA sewing project in Bethel produced 1287 clothing and household items valued at 812.96 for relief clients. Workers earned about 1259.28 in salaries, with materials costing 642.28 of which 617.28 came from federal textile supplies.

George Davis a Union township farmer and former trucking operator is named deputy by Sheriff Garland G Auxier to replace Frank Perry who resigned Friday to run for Sheriff. Davis 36 lives in Perintown and is married to Elsie Utter who once worked as a stenographer for the County Board of Education.

Three Men Fined After Saturday Scrap in Bethel

Bethel men Robble Newgetown and Charles Hill faced Sheriff G A Garland in Williamsburg on drunken and disorderly conduct charges. They were fined 25 dollars plus costs for their part in a Saturday night disturbance at Jack Gagnon’s Place that allegedly involved furniture destruction and a smashed front door. Pribble and Hill each paid 10 dollars and costs and served 10 days in jail for property damage. jail time was suspended if they paid for the door and restored the property.

The Clermont County Commissioners allocate 700 dollars from the Relief fund to 14 townships for March. Hayden Files for Reelection Monday

Representative John J. Hayden of Felicity Clermont county filed petitions for re election to the General Assembly with the Board of Elections. His term is noted for highway improvements in Clermont county and he appears to enjoy broad electoral support. Thirty two Clermont county farm women with Farm Security Administration loans show progress in canning and storage. They stored 8 388 quarts and 400 bushels of produce, averaging 64 quarts per person. Six families met the 80 quart per person quota.

Milford Girls Defeat Owensville in Final Tourney

Milford girls basketball team beat Owensville 29 to 19 in Amelia Ohio for the last annual girls scholastic tournament in Clermont county. Milford led 16 to 5 at halftime. Crist scored 13, Craver and Smithson 8 each while Fetter 9, Brossart 8, Anstaett 2 led Owensville.

Clermont County Tuberculosis and Health Association Annual Meeting

The Clermont County Tuberculosis and Health Association held its annual meeting at Mrs. Cora Bishop’s home on February 29. Officers were re-elected: Adelaide T. Jones president, R. G. Little vice president, S. W. Sprague secretary, and E. B. Kincaid treasurer. Mrs. Ralph Fuhr was named Representative director and Rev. Vernon P. Martin Jr. joined the Red Cross Advisory committee. The 1939 Christmas seal sale yielded a record 1132.60. Expenditures for 1939 included X-ray exams, tonsil operations, skin testing material, medical supplies, educational pamphlets, and office costs, with a January 1, 1940 balance of 439.20 reported by Earl Kincaid. The group approved continuing the tuberculosis finding program in 1940 and authorized seeking x-ray equipment and periodic examinations for suspected cases.
