Cler mont county WPA sewing project in Bethel produced 1287 clothing and household items valued at 812.96 for relief clients. Workers earned about 1259.28 in salaries, with materials costing 642.28 of which 617.28 came from federal textile supplies.
The YMCA survey finds high school students most worried about war, job scarcity, and racial antagonisms. It highlights youth anxiety about national conflict economic prospects and racial tensions shaping student experiences in schools.
Seventy five adult pheasants were released in seven parts of the county last week by Game Warden Edgar Anstead. The birds will mate and stock the county for future hunting.
The Republican club will hold its regular monthly meeting at Bethel High School Auditorium Thursday night March 7. Members are asked to make supper requisitions in time to Mrs. C. P. Althaus.

William Houghton of Felicity Franklin Township announces his candidacy in the Republican primary for Clermont County Sheriff. The primary is set for May 14 to select the party’s nominee for the office.
The Patron's Chest of Clermont County Granges began at Williamsburg with a fine program before about seventy attendees by Bantam Grange. Goshen Grange plans a March 26 trip to Bantam to receive the chest, while Bantam Grange and Washington Grange will conduct first and second degrees at Felicity on March 15 as part of initiatory exchanges.
George Davis a Union township farmer and former trucking operator is named deputy by Sheriff Garland G Auxier to replace Frank Perry who resigned Friday to run for Sheriff. Davis 36 lives in Perintown and is married to Elsie Utter who once worked as a stenographer for the County Board of Education.
On Tuesday March 12 at 7 30 P M the evangelist E Howard Cadle and his staff will speak in Williams burg School Auditorium. Loud speakers will be set up so all can hear and radio notices will play on WLW weekdays at 7 AM and Sundays at noon. Free admission and all are welcome.
Wayne Fitzpatrick of Amelia earned a place on the dean’s list in the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering and Applied Science for the first term. The 1989 Amelia High School graduate is a freshman, listed among the upper ten percent of his class.
Bethel men Robble Newgetown and Charles Hill faced Sheriff G A Garland in Williamsburg on drunken and disorderly conduct charges. They were fined 25 dollars plus costs for their part in a Saturday night disturbance at Jack Gagnon’s Place that allegedly involved furniture destruction and a smashed front door. Pribble and Hill each paid 10 dollars and costs and served 10 days in jail for property damage. jail time was suspended if they paid for the door and restored the property.
Representative John J. Hayden will address the Cler mont County Township Trustees and Clerks Association meeting in Bethel at the Grant Memorial Building Friday March 8 at 8 PM. Joe R. Thomas and others are expected to attend as the public session discusses proposed redistricting and rural representation cuts.
Miss Viola Benz presents an operetta in three acts Felicity at Bethel School Auditorium Friday night March 8 at 8 PM. School children star as Rip Van Winkle Dame Van Winkle and other roles with orchestra between acts and a tonette class performing. Admission 15 cents.
The Clermont County Commissioners allocate 700 dollars from the Relief fund to 14 townships for March. Allocations include Batavia 56, Franklin 49, Goshen 35, Jackson 10.50, Miami 154, Monroe 24.50, Ohio 63, Pierce 42, Stonelick 24.50, Tate 63, Union 56, Washington 49, Wayne 35, Williamsburg 38.50.
Representative John J. Hayden of Felicity Clermont county filed petitions for re election to the General Assembly with the Board of Elections. His term is noted for highway improvements in Clermont county and he appears to enjoy broad electoral support. Hayden recently declined a draft Hayden for Congress move to continue his legislative work. Acacia Tree Species noted with 550 species mentioned.
The Clermont county Schoolmasters Club will hold its March meeting at Batavia on Thursday evening March 7. Stanley E Pattison announced the banquet for all county boards of education in the Batavia School cafeteria auditorium at 7 o'clock. Guest speaker will be D L Hutchins from the State Department of Education, Columbus.
Mrs Blanche E Noel of Pike county announces her bid for State Central Committeewoman from the sixth Congressional District. She has been County Republican Chairwoman for four years and served on the Scioto county Executive Committee for eight years. In 1928 she worked on the State Republican Platform and was secretary of the State Publicity Committee under Mrs Wilma Sinclair LeVan. She belongs to the Home League of Portsmouth the Sorosis Club of Piketon and the Republican Club of Pike county.
Thirty two Clermont county farm women with Farm Security Administration loans show progress in canning and storage. They stored 8 388 quarts and 400 bushels of produce, averaging 64 quarts per person. Six families met the 80 quart per person quota.
William Houghton 53 of Felicity announces candidacy for Clermont County Sheriff in the Republican primary May 14. Former deputy recorder under John Swing about 20 years ago he now runs a wholesale meat business in Felicity. He is a Felicity Masonic Lodge member, married with two children.
Milford girls basketball team beat Owensville 29 to 19 in Amelia Ohio for the last annual girls scholastic tournament in Clermont county. Milford led 16 to 5 at halftime. Crist scored 13, Craver and Smithson 8 each while Fetter 9, Brossart 8, Anstaett 2 led Owensville.
The March 8 1940 event honors seven years of national farm policy with praise for USDA support. The Clermont County AAA committee urges appreciation via a radio broadcast at 10:00 PM EST on NBC ABC Mutual networks. Stations WGAR WTAM WHIO WBNS WOSU and WADC in Ohio will air the remarks by President Franklin D Roosevelt Secretary Henry A Wallace and Postmaster General James A Farley.
The Milk Producers Union will hold a regular session at the Batavia courthouse on Friday evening, March 8 at 8 PM. A. W. Brinkman serves as chairman.
The Clermont County Tuberculosis and Health Association held its annual meeting at Mrs. Cora Bishop’s home on February 29. Officers were re-elected: Adelaide T. Jones president, R. G. Little vice president, S. W. Sprague secretary, and E. B. Kincaid treasurer. Mrs. Ralph Fuhr was named Representative director and Rev. Vernon P. Martin Jr. joined the Red Cross Advisory committee. The 1939 Christmas seal sale yielded a record 1132.60. Expenditures for 1939 included X-ray exams, tonsil operations, skin testing material, medical supplies, educational pamphlets, and office costs, with a January 1, 1940 balance of 439.20 reported by Earl Kincaid. The group approved continuing the tuberculosis finding program in 1940 and authorized seeking x-ray equipment and periodic examinations for suspected cases.
