Clarence J. Brown led the Sixth District secret vote at the Portsmouth Republican meeting last Friday with 86 for Brown, 19 for Cooper, and 18 for Ingalls for governor. Delegates to the national convention were indorsed. resolutions praised Hoover and Fess, and a death notice for Congressman Kearns was read. George Thomas Groves born January 8 1845 near Batavia Ohio enlisted May 2 1864 at Camp Dennison as a member of Company K 153rd OVI. He worked as a bookkeeper, ran a shop in Mt Crab and farms in Clermont and Highland counties then lived at Batavia until his death February 22 1982. He survived by wife Mabel, daughter Nellie, and son Harry with several siblings and many friends.

Nathan W. Bacon of Neville, a noted Clermont County farmer, tobacco raiser, and Democratic State Representative candidate, died in bed Friday morning. Funeral held Monday at 2 30. Survived by widow and son John, a Lees Creek teacher. Born during early life in Boston, he later settled on a Neville farm and worked as Field Representative for the Cincinnati Board of Trade. Body lay in state at White Funeral Home, New Richmond, from Saturday afternoon until Monday.
