Carnival to Feature T Paul Jordan and Yo Yo Contest

The Carnival will host radio entertainer T Paul Jordan performing with piano accordion. A March 4 yo yo contest for all boys and girls aims to reveal top local yo-yo talent in Clermont county. Prizes at booths will be bought from Batavia merchants with substantial awards replacing plaster dolls.

The Clermont County Relief Committee received another supply of shoes for school children. Teachers and others who know children in need should apply to the County Superintendent of Schools with the children's names ages and needed sizes.

Fatal fall claims local 87-year-old veteran on Main Street

George Groves, 87, a Civil War veteran of Co K 168th C V I, died after a fall on Main Street Monday at 11 30. He fractured his skull and died at 4 30. Survived by two daughters, O E Young of Georgetown and Nellie Rhoades of Highland County, and sister Mrs Sarah McHaule 89. Funeral from residence Wednesday at 1 80 burial at M Crab. He was a retired farmer and flower enthusiast.

State Relief Furnished to Needy in 44 Counties

The State Relief Commission reports 18,236 shoes and 8,376 overalls supplied to 44 counties. In Clermont county the distribution included 194 shoes and 48 overalls via the local relief committee. The commission feeds 2,316 school children and aims to continue feeding through the term if local resources fail. Governor White emphasizes feeding and clothing children as essential.

Fruit Growers Will Attend School

Beginning on March 974 apondy for fruit growers will be offered in Batavia free of charge to anyone interested. Mr C B Holland, fruit specialist of Ohio State University, will conduct the course. County Agent Wil son reports 28 men and women have enrolled. Enrollees should plan to attend all sessions as material interlocks. enrollments are still being accepted.

Grand Jury Returns Indictments and Bills in Local Case

The grand jury in session last Thursday returned one sealed indictment and a bill against John King of New Richmond for shooting with intent to kill his wife Callie. It also returned a bill against Jas. Garison for shooting his brother Harry. The panel noted trouble over tobacco sale money and some minor bills. The case of Lee Spenilla for shooting Arch Welsch was continued.

White Bees at Nash’s Drug Store Exhibit

White paper bees drew town interest last Thursday in Nash’s drug store. News traveled fast as residents shared sightings, with the six letter B’s described as white bees, fooling many in Clermont county. The rest lists telephone service installations in local towns and ends with a death verdict by Coroner Curlis.

Car overturns on Batavia bridge injury-free

Saturday afternoon John Rapp traveling to his lumber yard met James Gregg on the Batavia bridge. Gregg gave too much room to oncoming traffic and struck an upright girder, causing his car to overturn. No one injured though the car was disfigured and towed to Ayer's garage for repairs.
