A general meeting of the Republicans of the Sixth Congressional District will be held in Portsmouth at the Masonic Temple club rooms Thursday February 25 at 1130 a m. Luncheon will be served and all Republicans are invited to attend.
The Milford Kiwanis Club plans a large meeting on Monday evening March 7 at the Masonic Temple at 6 15 p m with Secretary of State Clarence J Brown as guest speaker The event includes a dinner served by the Eastern Star priced at 75 cents Reservations through Leonard L Harding secretary of the Kiwanis Club Milford reflect the club's active status after moving into its own club rooms in the Milford National Bank Building.
Public notice lists county and township filings with 100 signatures per district or county and five for township posts due by March 11 at 6 30 pm. Republicans include Representative John Hayden and Sheriff A W Meinken, Democrats nominate Charles G White and Garland Auxier among others.
The Carnival will host radio entertainer T Paul Jordan performing with piano accordion. A March 4 yo yo contest for all boys and girls aims to reveal top local yo-yo talent in Clermont county. Prizes at booths will be bought from Batavia merchants with substantial awards replacing plaster dolls.
The Clermont County Relief Committee received another supply of shoes for school children. Teachers and others who know children in need should apply to the County Superintendent of Schools with the children's names ages and needed sizes.
George Groves, 87, a Civil War veteran of Co K 168th C V I, died after a fall on Main Street Monday at 11 30. He fractured his skull and died at 4 30. Survived by two daughters, O E Young of Georgetown and Nellie Rhoades of Highland County, and sister Mrs Sarah McHaule 89. Funeral from residence Wednesday at 1 80 burial at M Crab. He was a retired farmer and flower enthusiast.
The Republican Central Committee of Clermont county endorses Hon. Simon Ross of Terrace Park for re-election to the Court of Appeals from the First District. Mrs Carpenter of North street, aged elderly, fell last week breaking her hip but is progressing as expected. Later 98 year old Harriett Lodica Carpenter died at 1 46 am Tuesday, survived by daughter Harriett and son Wm. Herbert of Peoria Ill. Funeral Thursday. Milford PTA plans March 4 play Nothing but the Truth at Milford School Auditorium with local talent. Admission 26c adults 10c children. Batavia Woman's Club met on Saturday to mark George Washington Bicentennial with Colonial costumes and refreshments. Amelia P T A to meet March 2 at school auditorium with Mr Wilson as guest speaker. High's Band to perform.
Drawings for the Boys Basketball Tournament set in Amelia from Feb 26 to 29. Night games include Williamsburg vs Batavia and Milford vs Felicity, with semifinals and finals across Saturday and Monday. La Maceda prepares for a key home clash with Comello Flyers on Feb 27. Amelia girls edge Batavia. Amelia boys dominate Batavia 84 to 22 as Lena Gehl leads with 11 points.
Mr Aughinbaugh of the State Department of Education will present an illustrated lecture on Ohio at Batavia Town Hall. The one hour program includes over one hundred slides and charges 26 cents for town residents with other showings in Milford Bethel Williamsburg Owensville New Richmond Felicity. It aims to attract students and Ohio enthusiasts alike.
The State Relief Commission reports 18,236 shoes and 8,376 overalls supplied to 44 counties. In Clermont county the distribution included 194 shoes and 48 overalls via the local relief committee. The commission feeds 2,316 school children and aims to continue feeding through the term if local resources fail. Governor White emphasizes feeding and clothing children as essential.
Beginning on March 974 apondy for fruit growers will be offered in Batavia free of charge to anyone interested. Mr C B Holland, fruit specialist of Ohio State University, will conduct the course. County Agent Wil son reports 28 men and women have enrolled. Enrollees should plan to attend all sessions as material interlocks. enrollments are still being accepted.
The grand jury in session last Thursday returned one sealed indictment and a bill against John King of New Richmond for shooting with intent to kill his wife Callie. It also returned a bill against Jas. Garison for shooting his brother Harry. The panel noted trouble over tobacco sale money and some minor bills. The case of Lee Spenilla for shooting Arch Welsch was continued.
White paper bees drew town interest last Thursday in Nash’s drug store. News traveled fast as residents shared sightings, with the six letter B’s described as white bees, fooling many in Clermont county. The rest lists telephone service installations in local towns and ends with a death verdict by Coroner Curlis.

Ries is famed for home beautification bulletins and magazine articles and delegates from other clubs are expected. All interested in flower growing and lawn garden beauty are invited.

Batavia Presbyterian Church led by Samuel Huecker invites worshipers for Sunday February 28 with Sunday school at 9:00 and morning service at 10:45 bearing the sermon For me to live is. Holy Trinity in Batavia offers Mass 9:30 with Lenten devotions and Wednesday service at 8 pm. St Philomena in Stonelick and Monterey Church of Christ also list Mass times, classes, and revival plans in late February and March.

Died Saturday Miss Emma Applegate eight percent years old daughter of the late Nelson Applegate residing on the farm above Batavia. She was a sister of J L Applegate Batavia and a member of the M E Church burial in Union cemetery Columbus Ohio February 24 Secretary of State Clarence J Brown busy with speaking engagements scheduling meetings across the state including Steubenville New Carlisle Columbus Marysville Cincinnati Newark Akron and Music Hall Cincinnati.
Saturday afternoon John Rapp traveling to his lumber yard met James Gregg on the Batavia bridge. Gregg gave too much room to oncoming traffic and struck an upright girder, causing his car to overturn. No one injured though the car was disfigured and towed to Ayer's garage for repairs.
