At a Clermont County Red Cross meeting on February 19 Wallace H Maw of Loveland was elected chapter chairman. John P Friend presided as plans for the 1945 War Fund drive were discussed and township chairmen named across the county. The county quota was set at 28800 to be raised March 1 through April 1.

Batavian Ladies Vote Likely Few in First Election

A Batavia observer estimates 25 ladies might vote in the first election on women’s suffrage, with most opposed and likely more turnout among first timers than in future contests. He notes about 260 to 280 male voters and predicts higher costs for votes with added female participation.

Scouting Exhibit Draws Large Batavia PTA Crowd

The Batavia Armory hosted a Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts exhibit attracting a record attendance. Girl Scouts showcased pioneering design and crafts led by Mrs Frye and others, with Tenderfoot to First Class badges awarded to several members. Boy Scouts presented air plane structure, Indian lore, metal work and more. Batavia P T A plans a March 8 meeting at Batavia High School to discuss a book drive for the school library and new book fundraising efforts. Refreshments will follow.

Clermont County Grand Jury returned 12 true bills from 21 cases presented by Prosecutor Ray Bradford. Principal indictment names Frank Kirk of Loveland for first degree murder in the slaying of his stepdaughter Louise Adkins. Death of John J. Thomas Former Batavia Court Custodian

John J. Thomas longtime custodian at the Batavia Court House died after a brief illness last Friday. Funeral services were held February 27 at 2 PM from Moore Funeral Home with burial in Batavia Cemetery.
