The Milford to Hillsboro road widening is finished and the final top course will be laid midweek. Traffic will be halted during work with a detour about eight miles long from Milford to Perintown. One way traffic will occur on narrow Perintown to Stonelick section for about ten days.

Clermont Grange of Newtonsville Ohio held an open meeting at Odd Fellows Hall on Tuesday June 8 with many members and visitors. A lively program featured songs talks readings piano duets and a string contest with prizes. A lunch of ice cream and cake followed. A “Womanless Wedding” is planned for Saturday July 8 at Mt Washington Presbyterian church lawn with admission 16 cents and 10 cents for children.
James Fitzpatrick a Bethel contractor and builder is employed as inspector on the new U B church in Batavia. He previously supervised the U B church at Clough and is familiar with this type of structure.
Mrs J N Robbins of Goshen dies at home late Thursday evening. widow of Jasper N Robbins who served as under at Goshen for over fifty years. Funeral services were held Saturday at her residence with interment in Goshen cemetery.
Large crowds gather in Batavia for weekly band concerts as visitors arrive by auto and town residents line sidewalks. The event brings commerce and two purposes in one trip while the band earns praise for its well prepared music. Everyone is invited.
Clermont county teachers plan a five day institute in Williamsburg from August 23 to 27. A well prepared program aims to benefit and entertain all county teachers in the new school building auditorium, with further details to be announced later.
Grand Jury coroner Christopher delivers findings in the Ed Wood inquest. The report states Ed Wood died from a gunshot wound fired by Robert Gregor.
The tobacco crop in Clermont County is ready with plants doing well. The setting season went smoothly overall but land preparation was tough. Ground corn and other fields remained hard to break and acreage compares unfavorably with previous years.
The corn crop in Clermont County is generally small due to late planting. Batavia claims the finest stand and largest growth in the county, near the C. G. and P. railway station, in the Duckwall bottom owned by Mrs. L. F. Walker and grown by Chas. Seibert. It stands waist high and is clean as a floor.
The Ohio Eastern Star picnic at Felicity drew visitors from every district chapter with ideal weather and full hospitality. The program ran smoothly, noon dinner was abundant, and all enjoyed the day before planning a future gathering in Portsmouth.

Streets in Batavia received tarvia and chips last week and others will be oiled this week. The work, funded by gas tax money, improves sanitary conditions and street smoothness for users.
Edward Warren, held in Cincinnati by Sheriff Fred Croswell, was released after prosecutors found insufficient evidence to prosecute. The case centered on the identification of Warren as a man seen with a woman the night before a body found in the Ohio River last year. Jurors remain divided, and officials say no further charges will follow. Jacob Ansteatt sold his East Fork farm to Fred Ungelhaem, who now owns three local farms. The sale price was $6,000 below wartime offers, and the buyer’s son is expected to take charge in March.

The Moody Bible Institute of Chicago provides free training for young men and women seeking Christian vocations. Programs cover missions pastoral work evangelism religious education and music with a small fee for private music lessons. No denomination limits and foreign youth receive English training. Fall term opens September 9.
With the Fourth of July on Sunday many will take Monday off and head to the Owensville fair ground for a morning ball game and an afternoon horse race. Several fine animals will appear in contests making it a good 5th of July excursion.
Supplies for the Owensville county fair have arrived for 1926. The fair runs from August 18 to 21 with events including horse exhibitions and other attractions. The grounds and buildings are in good condition and the Board of Directors expects record crowds attracted by the state pike.

The county election board awarded Johnson and Watson of Dayton the contract to furnish poll books and tally sheets. Poll books will list voter names and addresses. The Courier secured the ballot printing contract. Candidates may request sample ballots from the office after regular ballots are completed.
The Hempel State Legislative Highway Committee urges separating the State Highways and Public Works department next winter. It also proposes a statewide system under the State Highway Department with county and township control for secondary and remaining roads. Ohio has about 85 000 miles of highways with 40 248 improved and 44 634 miles of earth roads. A large basket meeting and speech event is announced at Batavia Baptist Church August 22, 1926 by A. M. E. Mission.
