Former Batavian Dies After Short Illness
Daniel Hamilton eldest son of the late J H Hamilton of Batavia died at his daughter's home in Ashland Kentucky after a brief illness. He leaves a son and several daughters. Funeral today with burial in Batavia Union Cemetery Wednesday afternoon. Congress plans adjournment on June 30 not June 26 as previously reported. post office building appropriations still await votes.

Radium Swindle Foiled by Local Sheriff and Deputy
Sheriff Fred Croswell and David Gallagher nabbed Max Friedman of New York on a Friday in Batavia after he posed as an optical salesman. He targeted Henry Hadsell, agreeing to return with radium for eye treatment at 30 dollars per drop, seven drops needed. The arrest spared Hadsell a 245 dollar payment. the radium was water, and Friedman faced charges for practicing as an optician without a license.

Encampment of Ohio G A R Held in Portsmouth
The 60th encampment of the Ohio Division of the Grand Army of the Republic met in Portsmouth last week. A grand parade Wednesday drew over 25,000 spectators as Civil War veterans led by guards and companies passed the reviewing stand. Veterans and their ladies enjoyed a four hour steamboat trip to the Frederick Dam in Kentucky. Portsmouth residents provided warm hospitality.

E K Parrott assistant cashier of Batavia First National Bank died at Christ Hospital Cincinnati last Wednesday from appendicitis and peritonitis after five days illness.
