A Friday morning fire destroyed two barns cribs silos and other outbuildings on a dairy farm near Monterey in Jackson township. Tenant Mack Reynolds lost feed and utensils. cattle were saved. Origin unknown though hay mow fire began in rear barn. Insurance totaled 5000 on buildings. Reynolds had none. Adjuster L L Johnson of Batavia handled claim.

Gasoline Iron Explosion Damages Georgetown Home
Last week Mrs. Haggerty of Georgetown IRONED with a gasoline iron when she left the room. The iron exploded, shattering two windows and starting a fire in the room. No cause is given. Citizens using gasoline irons are urged to be careful.
Governor Willis Endorses Junior Contests At Piqua
Governor Willis told a large Piqua crowd at the Corn Boys Reunion that he supports junior contest work promoted by the Agricultural Commission. He denied opposition rumors and recalled funding a top corn yield project in his congressional district. Drowning At Highland Park During Catholic Picnic
Leo Schiffer a 15 year old boy drowned Thursday afternoon at Highland Park while swimming with classmates under priest supervision from Newport Ky. The body stayed under 35 minutes before rescue and pronounced dead at home that evening. Doctor Allen Wright Ashburn born May 20 1848 in Batavia enlisted in the Union army at 15 and served in the 158d Ohio and 5th U S Cavalry. He studied medicine at Miami Medical College and Bellevue. He died June 27 surrounded by family leaving seven children and eight grandchildren.

Kennedy vs Kempton civil suit ends in defense verdict
In Kennedy versus Kempton et al a civil suit for 10000 to recover the gienation of a husband's affections, Mrs. Cora Kennedy sued Pearl Kempton and her parents George Danby and wife. The trial lasted from Tuesday to Friday at 2 o'clock with 39 witnesses. The jury returned a verdict for the defendants after a first ballot showing 11 for defendants and one for plaintiff. John Kennedy, husband of the plaintiff, was the only party present when verdict was rendered.

On Saturday evening June 26, Clermont county girls and boys at Oxford Ohio held a picnic on Tallawanda Meadows near the Waterworks. They enjoyed old time games and a high rope swing. Forty eight picnickers toasted wieners and marshmallows over a camp fire with help from Mr. Thobe who lent a rope and his horse and buggy to transport folks and supplies. On Saturday night June 19 the Maywood Summit Sewing Club gave an ice cream supper for members and families at Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Barker.
