Amelia Council Objects to Library Budget Request

Amelia village council met in a special session on June 19 to protest the Clermont County Library Board budget request of 127 060 to maintain services and establish a Union Township branch in 1962. The mayor was asked to urge the budget commission to disallow the petition noting financial strains and a small Amelia population.

Two Telephone Co Men Promoted to New Supervisory Roles

Officials of the Cincinnati and Suburban Bell Telephone Co announce two Clermont County men, Robert H. Wiedenbein and Ernest H. Ruffner, promoted to supervisory technician posts in the Engineering Department. Wiedenbein of Branch Hill, a Milford High School graduate, joins with plans for building and facility engineering. Ruffner of Williamsburg, with earlier roles as installer-repairman and engineering assistant, will supervise outside facilities planning in parts of downtown Cincinnati.

Health Post Still Vacant in Clermont County

Clermont County Board of Health received a letter from Dr. Joseph W. Still rejecting the county health commissioner post and advisory consultant role. He was to start June 15 then July 1, with a May 24 contract set at 1400 dollars monthly. The county has lacked a health commissioner since early this year after dismissing Dr. J.C. Spense for administrative concerns.

Court Upholds Planning Commission Rejection of Mt Forest Plat

Common Pleas Court judge Daniel Aultman upheld Clermont County Planning Commission’s rejection of the Hall Finn plat for Mt Forest No 5 in Mt Carmel. The ruling finds no conflict between required preliminary plat approval and Ohio statutes. The mandamus action by developers Carl A Finn and James Hall to compel recording was heard previously and taken under advisement.

Four Culverts Replaced On Rt 232 Project

Traffic on Route 232 is maintained as 0.504 mile of roadway is improved. The project includes resurfacing with T-35 material and replacing four inadequate structures with metal pipe culverts at a cost of 151000. The work began June 5 and should finish by September 30, according to Deputy Director Joseph M. Unger.

Moscow Man Sentenced Life for Murder in 9-Year Case

Charles Gilliam, 68, of Moscow, found guilty of murdering his wife Grace nine years ago. A three judge court imposed life imprisonment on prosecutor Ralph A. Hill's recommendation. Russell Speidel challenged the verdict claiming insanity. Gilliam had been at Lima State Hospital until recently and testified about delusions and alleged infidelity. Edward Cooner Batavia police chief is elected president of Tri County Lodge No. 105 FOP. Milford Park Grand Opening Begins Friday

Milford Park on U S Route 50 east of Milford opens as an amusement park Friday after a year as a cart track. Fireworks, a train ride, kiddie rides and a scenic ride by William Carnie of Loveland are planned with daily public access and ongoing cart races.

Road Improvement Bids Opened for Clermont County

Clermont County opened bids Friday for 71 miles of roads. Brewer & Sons Co. was the apparent low bidder at 54 146 for five roads with the highest priced asphaltic concrete. Other apparent low bidders included L. P. Cavett 166 roads at 57 521, William Light Construction Co 14 roads at 34 343, and A. M. Radabaugh 14 roads at 50 571.

Jury Upholds Jordan Will in Common Pleas Court

A Clermont Common Pleas Court jury upheld Lucille R. Jordan's will against her husband T. Paul Jordan. The 1959 death by self induced suffocation set the stage for a second trial after a prior deadlock. The will leaves $1,000 to each half sisters Willa Leever and Mary E. Dunn, with the remaining $55,000 to Walter W. Moore and a brother, plus an option on the Jordan farm. Judge James W. Lang of Adams County oversaw the trial.

Guns Stolen from Milford Hardware

Milford Police were informed by owner Larry Dietrich that seven guns and .22 caliber ammunition were stolen from Milford Hardware Co. in a burglary discovered at 7 15 a.m. The loss value is estimated at 100 dollars and was reported to Police Chief Earl Konrad.

Civic Group backs park improvement effort in Withamsville

The Withamsville-Tabasco Civic Association meets at 8 p.m. on Friday June 30 at the Banks Road fire house. President Victor Arrighi invites new residents and all neighbors to join.
