Ohio War Savings staff secretary Harold H. Bredlow says the new withholding tax starting July 1 will not hinder War Bond over the counter or payroll deduction purchases. The tax is a current collection on income above exemptions, not a separate 20 percent levy, with receipts in line with existing Victory tax and income tax payments. Workers nationwide have a strong record in funding War Bonds and must push further to curb inflation and finance overseas offensives.

Pioneer Delia Stickel Celebrates 96th Birthday in Clermont County
Life long Clermont County resident Delia Stickel, daughter of Col. Johnathan Denham, marked her 96th birthday at daughter Eva Henning’s Forest Hill home. Her family includes Judge Hugh L. Nichols nephew and Batavia attorney Allen B. Nichols. Her son Major Ed Hitch resides in Washington DC, with two granddaughters serving as Army captains and a great grandson Ensign Wayne Nichols Fitzpatrick just graduated from Annapolis.

Milton J. Kain Dies in Batavia at 97
Milton J. Kain, longtime Batavia figure and former deputy County Auditor, died at his Main Street home after a short illness on June 16. He served as Batavia Eagles Lodge secretary and previously ran hotels in Cincinnati and Dayton. Born August 16, 1869, he leaves a brother in Springfield and two sisters in Batavia. Funeral was held at Moore Funeral Home with burial in Union Cemetery as out of town relatives attended.

Auction Sale At Clermont Fair To Feature War Bond Drive
A gigantic auction sale will highlight Clermont County Farmer's Victory Day at Owensville Fair grounds on August 19. Robert Caldwell, Sale Chairman, says proceeds support war bonds and stamps while providing a venue for farmers and others to sell items and buyers to acquire needed goods. Items sold may yield one fourth of proceeds in war bonds or stamps. The committee expects broad county participation and will accept items from doll buggies to threshing machines.
