From July 1862 Courier notes Charley Fee of Clermont, 19, as gunner who helped repulse rebels in Amelia and Bethel, firing last shots and aiding captured guns. Also mentions Stanton and Clarke’s Independence Day observations, and Major E. B. Ricker’s Ohio cavalry appointment.
A faded business puff recalls Kain and Abel as a partnership once located near Clermont House. Milton Karp and Abe later parted ways with Abe becoming a clerk in Washington, then reuniting with his partner at a Bonn pharmacy site.
Captain Frank White spots neighborhood children shaking his cherry trees to scare away birds. The boys reveal they are picking cherries but blame the birds for most of the damage. White jokes about the situation and the inspectors retreat, leaving the scene unresolved.
The article lauds government care for service members with holidays sickness pensions and re enlistment premiums. It highlights Fred O. Troy of Amelia who after an honorable discharge reenlisted within four months, receiving $182 bonus promotion to gunner's mate and $7 extra salary per month.
On June 10 1900 at 2 45 pm George J Winter of Miamiville Ohio and Miss Sophia R Newcome of Branch Hill Ohio were united in marriage by Rev E Burdsall at the Thalman home Main street Batavia. A small gathering attended with Mr Thalman and family plus Mrs Alma Gerhardt and Mrs Winemiller and son. A reception followed at the couple s home in Miamiville.

The Batavia Lodge I O O F held memorial rites Sunday at 1:80 oclock marching to Olive Branch Cemetery to lay flowers on brethren graves. Returning to Batavia they performed the service again in local cemeteries. The Daughters of Rebekah joined, and the Batavia band escorted the procession in an impressive display.
Citizens of Loveland gain better county peat transport with a revised timetable. Depart Loveland Pan Handle 6:47 arrive Clare 7:21. leave Clare 7:25 arrive Batavia 7:64. Return Batavia 4:48 pm arrive Clare 5:10. depart Clare 5:60 reach Loveland 6:26. This long day is the best arrangement yet made.
William A. Dudley former Georgetown resident and Williamsburg businessman died in Gallipolis on Saturday night June 5 funeral held in Williamsburg and interment beside his wife. Born May 29 1826 in Harpers Ferry he moved from Virginia to Ohio then Williamsburg then Georgetown worked in woolen mills and helped found a local chair factory He joined the Clermont company that went to California in 1849 He leaves two brothers Otis of Afton and Adolphus a retired preacher and five children Also noted Mrs Sarah Ann Daugherty wife of A D Daugherty died in Owensville aged 76 Funeral at her residence Thursday at 1 30 a m she leaves a husband and several children.
Dr. A W Lamar of Tennessee will be one of the speakers at the Highland Park Chautauqua. Described as one of the last voices of the Old South, he is praised as a predecessor to Sam Jones and remains a popular lecturer whose Dixie Before and After the War and other topics draw wide admiration and return engagements.
A severe storm hit West Union on a Tuesday night with thunder hail and rain in two installments. The second strike hit four houses including Squire Havlin's melting a picture frame and extinguishing a lamp as residents faced shock but no serious injuries or major damage reported.
The school board filled vacancies from resignations of Harriet Moore and HKuphemia Ash by appointing George Bauer and Carrie Nichols. Cecile Halick remains principal, others retained, with an additional teacher to be hired from many applications. Mr Timmons continues as superintendent.
Batavia gears up for Independence Day with a national salute and band concert. At 10:30 a grand Bethel versus Goshen ball game on the school house lot precedes a 35 mile Marathon at 12:30, followed by varied races, daylight fireworks, an 8 PM ball game, fireworks and music, dancing on the green, and Traction cars running until 11:16.
Goshen hosts a session of the Tri-State Dairy Farmers Association forming a local chapter. From eighteen charter members, membership rose to sixty in six weeks as the group aims to secure fair milk prices, improve sanitary standards, and publicize dairy interests through organized cooperation. The committee on publicity endorses the move despite some public misunderstanding.
Agricultural schools will be held in different parts of the state during the year under the supervision of the College of Agriculture of the Ohio State University. The Clermont County Federation of Woman's Clubs holds an all day meeting tomorrow at New Richmond. All county clubs will be present with Mrs. L. M. Spencer as lead speaker addressing "The Making of a Practical Club Woman."
Clermonters hear that Clifford B Harmon a well known county figure owned the finest and largest balloon to ascend from Indianapolis. He lived in Bethel and was born in Lebanon where he ran a large real estate business with E B Woods. Later he moved to New York where Howard and Henry Lockwood work in his office. Harmon's father partnered with L B Leeds in the Clermont Sun before the war and served as an Ohio regiment lieutenant. He planned to release carrier pigeons over Bethel and Lebanon but they failed to reach the intended sites. Harmon's partner E B Woods of Lebanon died about two years ago.
The Cincinnati Automobile Club plans a June 26 hill-climbing contest at Fort Ancient in Warren County to test skill and speed. Ashleigh M. Brown leads opposition via the Warren County Protective Association, threatening legal action over cruelty concerns if the event proceeds.
A state bank was instituted at Amelia with capital stock of 25,000 dollars. Projectors include Blackburn of Uniontown Kentucky Hicks of Amelia Harvey Perin and B F Moyer of Hamlet and others. The stock was fully subscribed by Saturday night with several thousand dollars over. Williams of Uniontown will serve as cashier.
Twenty five relatives including nephews and nieces gathered at Mrs. Amanda Hambleton on Wood Street for a lavish lawn banquet last Friday. Guests came from Clermont and Hamilton counties as the family reunion day unfolded with meals, conversation, and shared cheer.

James Waesner employed in the foundry received severe injuries yesterday when a kettle of molten iron upset and splashed his feet. He may be disabled for weeks. Dr. Van Horn treated him and reports him improving this morning.
