Local youths take work across area as school ends

Mt. Holly residents note several youths finding work with George Kennedy at Coleman & Bell Chemical Co in Norwood and Charles Watson at Coney Island. Carl White works on Rial Road and Robert Costogan helps his father in Cincinnati. Jake Slade and wife visit friends while Marvin Yazell, overseas two years, telegraphs he will be home soon.

Cantata by Batavia Methodist children presented Sunday

The Batavia Methodist Church children performed a cantata titled When Roses Bloom Sunday evening under the direction of Mrs. Huntington's class. Special mention goes to Mrs. Forest Ely Mrs. Russell Speidel Mrs. Abram directing Mrs. James Gregg Mrs. Robert Arnett for platform and costumes and Miss Myrtle Wilson Mrs. Fred Winter for music.

Public urged to help farmers during labor shortage

Farmers face a peak harvest period with insufficient labor from hay and wheat work. Through late June to end of July the public, service clubs, and organizations are urged to assist farmers. Ohio State Guard Reorganized Amid War Preparations

Eight months before December 7 1941 a U S President declared a state of emergency and the National Guard was federalized. Ohio formed a U I G modeled on the U S Army to replace the old National Guard and aid civil authorities during acts against the public western acts of sabotage.

Batavia Soldier Earns Navy Wings of Gold Ensign Mosbacker

Batavia native Homer H. Mosbacker 22, son of Mrs Olie E. Mosbacker, earned the Navy Wings of Gold and was commissioned Ensign in the Naval Reserve after flight training at Pensacola. He will go on active duty at an air training center before assignment to a combat zone.

Clermont County Eagles Elect New Officers for Year

Milford Barbecue Robbery Ends With Partial Safe Loss

Thieves entered the Con barbecue stand on State Route 50 early yesterday and attempted to remove a safe. They frightened away as they pried at the rear window and escaped. The safe contents were not disclosed and Chief Romohr reported a $1.50 loss from the cash box.

Flying Needles 4-H Club Elects Officers at Meeting

The Withamsville Tobasco Flying Needles 4-H Club met at the schoolhouse on Thursday June 8 with seven members present. Erma Boggs president presided and Irene Barrackman was elected secretary while Annavee Clark became news reporter. The treasurer reported $2.00 in the treasury and members adjourned after planning dress projects.

Loveland Man Receives Planning Engineer Post in England

Staff Sgt. Walter W. Baerbalek, husband of Mrs. Walter Baerbalek of Loveland, has been assigned as planning engineer in the metal fabrication department at a United States Air Service Command depot in England. The depot operates under Air Service Command for the United States Strategic Air Forces in Europe. Baerbalek has served in the armed forces since July 12, 1940, and has been stationed in the British Isles for nearly ten months.

Bethel Child Hurt in Printing Press Accident

Doris Althaus a two year old daughter of Rev A L Althaus suffered a mangled hand when caught in a printing press her father operated at home. Four fingers were removed and the child was in Christ Hospital Cincinnati awaiting further treatment. The pastor a former Army chaplain collapsed after the accident but returned home later.

Amelia Soldier Promoted in England

Amelia soldier Elmer A. Hockstok promoted from private first class to corporal by Ninth Air Force Service Command in England. He is a supply clerk at the base serving Allied expeditionary air force aircraft. Hockstok, 25, is son of John Hockstok of Batavia and is married to Ruth of Rural Route 1, Amelia. He entered service in April 1942 and went overseas in summer 1943.
