Attendees witnessed a historic Lindbergh reception broadcast by radio from Washington D C last Saturday. The event showcased radio’s impact with Clear audio of President Coolidge and guests and praised radio as a modern home necessity for all families.
The Batavia school runs a free Daily Vacation Bible School from 9 to 11 45 each morning with 95 children attending. Superintendent Mrs Join Huntington and teachers donate their time and seek public donations to pay for sewing and manual training class materials. Donations to Miss Emma Wilkie, treasurer, will fund supplies.
Clermont County Board of Commissioners met with State Highway Department officials in Cincinnati to plan urgent road repairs. Officials promised countywide work, with Route 74 Batavia to Hamilton and Hamlet to Lindale slated for repairs, plus potential improvements on Grant Highway. The effort aims to prevent further damage and save costs over time.
The 82 year old farmer George Holman of Batavia township ended his life by hanging in his barn on Wednesday. He had endured the loss of his wife about a year ago and had been despondent since. Burial is planned for Friday at Williamsburg. Dr G L Hines acted as coroner for Dr Christopher.
An Air East End Cincinnati pilot Al Miller on a sightseeing flight crashed in Amelia. The plane struck a shade tree and wires in the front yard of John Probst, destroying the craft. Passengers Dixie Davis and a second woman were injured. Davis was taken to the airport for treatment. Local residents and Covington visitors aided the injured.
The June 1 completion marks the end of sowing soybeans and corn at the Experiment Farm. Corn features include row fertilizer 200 lbs acre of 2-12-6, a corn hybrid breeding test aiming for 100 bu acre, and a comparison of hoeing versus cultivation levels. Registered Trumbull wheat field to be inspected by Ohio Seed Improvement Association for local seed supply.
Tax payment progress is slow this year with June 20 noted as the initial due date. County commissioners are likely to extend the deadline to July 20, giving taxpayers more time to meet obligations and cover other expenses.

Sunday at U B Church drew a large crowd for Children’s Day. Rev Semrau delivered a sermon and ten children, including two pairs of twins, were baptized—the most in the church’s history. An evening concert followed to thank supporters for funding the new church debt free.
A Saturday morning crash on the Grant Highway near Back Run left Mrs. Elizabeth Holderfield Miss Jessie Gregory Miss Bessie Bainum Mrs. Dora Hunt and Louise Harris unconscious after their car skidded and overturned a 14 foot embankment. Miss Gregory helped others escape then summoned aid as Drs Harry Cover Homer Behymer and J Y Mott treated them before transport home. The wrecked vehicle drew attention to the dangerous stretch and the narrow watercourse could have caused drownings.
Mayor Parshall vows to curb speeding with fines from 1 to 25 dollars and temporary driving bans. Last week the court contributed about 800 dollars to the treasury, with enforcement led by the marshal. The move aims to prevent traffic accidents before they happen.
The Owensville Masonic lodge announces an all day picnic at the fair grounds on July 4 inviting Masons, their families and friends. A social time is promised and a program is being prepared.
The Batavia Town Hall hosts the County Eighth Grade Commencement on Saturday June 18 1927 at 1 30 PM with music by Felicity School Band directed by Chas W Cookson Lancaster Ohio and the Misdbdegaete cg Band. Diplomas will be presented by County Superintendent E H Pattison. Admission is free.
Batavia will clash with Owensville on the school lot next Sunday June 19 at 8 p m. The Batavia nine will play four straight home games to climb in the league standings. A few new faces will join Batavia’s lineup with several changes expected in the general roster.
Thanks to the Board of Public Affairs and Supt Crosson the courthouse drinking fountain is open to the public. The Courier requested it as part of restoring mail service and both actions were promptly and cheerfully provided.
The Rev. Frank Hartman was installed as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in New Richmond Ohio on Tuesday night. Dr. Frank Grandstaff moderated the service and delivered the installation sermon. Bishop Harl Cranston offered the installation prayer. The congregation included representatives from town churches and the choir sang The Church in the Wild Wood. Refreshments followed social hour and Hartman had been warmly welcomed since March.
Sunday marked Children’s Day as churches held special events. The M. E. Sunday school presented a fine program by the little folks. The day touched the hearts of children and their parents.
Premium lists for the Owensville fair will be ready by July 1 and given to Secretary Christy in Monterey. The fair runs August 17 to 20 with strong exhibition expectations. Grounds and buildings are in good condition. An Olive Branch Ladies Aid entertainment is planned for June 18 at 8 p.m. titled Filling the Home Missionary Barrel, featuring Mrs Edith Hunt Jonas and pupils from Schuster Martin School. Refreshments will be sold. everyone is invited to support the cause.
County Agent Wm. G. Winemiller reports codling moth adults increasing in Columbus and outlines timing for sprays in Northern and Southern Ohio. He warns about first brood hatching, stresses spraying now to kill parents of July and August worms, and urges growers to protect remaining apples amid market pressures.
Gardner Paul M. Rapp, a hardware man, showcased a frost-proof cabbage specimen on Saturday. The 23¢ per pound head, grown from 10,000 plants per acre, suggests an acre could yield about $3,500 at current prices of 16¢ per pound, drawing attention from Batavia’s many gardeners.

The East Fork Progressive Farm Woman's Club gathered May 19 at Ruth Hutchinson’s home for an afternoon program. Activities included songs America a sonnet duet Irene Harbaugh and Mabel Mulloy readings a penny march and a discussion of favorite flowers and fishes. Mrs Naomi Harlow attended and fruit salad lemonade and cake were served.
The Guild of the Batavia M E church visited Mr and Mrs Edward Ansteadt at their Perkins hill home south of town last Thursday. About 72 members attended a social afternoon enjoying the fine county view ice cream and cake were served.
Peter Ballinger and his crew started repairs on State Route 74 from Hamilton to the Brown County line. Larger holes will be fixed first as the road was nearly impassable in places. The men will mix and apply material laid out along the pike for convenience. Read it in The Vourser first.
