George Henderson and Kyle Moyer were fishing on Hast Fork when a duck from the wigeon family appeared. Kyle shot the bird and George had it mounted for display in Nash's window. The Chief Game Warden arrested them. they face Federal Court in September. Another loon was killed at Miamiville and also led to an arrest. Both birds were given to the Batavia Public Schools. The boys are expected to be released after the hearing.
Washington taxpayers were urged by the Internal Revenue Bureau to pay the June 15 installment of income and profits taxes on time to avoid penalties. Prompt payment avoids a 5 percent additional assessment and 1 percent monthly interest on the remaining balance.
Clermont County Cow Testing Association reports for May. 145 cows on test, 80 producing 45 lb fat or more, 7 reaching 50 lb fat. Ten high cows named Eminent Girl’s Fairy, Mazie O’Kellstrn, Dale Fox, Marcella Sembrick, Walter Bee Coony Bess, Porros Chas. Witmer Black, Starlight, Mamie’s Owl, Alden’s Fair Promise, and Walter Bee. Average of ten high cows exceeds previous two months. Alden’s Fair Promise remains top despite August freshness. Mrs. L. D. During the first quarter of 1921 there were 114 deaths from sleeping sickness in Ohio, compared with 120 for all of 1920, the Ohio Health Department announced. No local cases have been reported, and the spring health of residents is described as good.
Farm Bureaus in several states including Ohio plan large winter coal contracts for their members. Several million bushels will be secured at reduced price with no middle man profit. Local trade gains time to secure winter needs while Pocahontas coal remains scarce and furnace coal is limited.
Eleven new speakers joined the statewide list for Farmers Institutes last week. Clermont county will supply its full quota, yet Batavia lacks requisitions. Armory and town hall are available for the event and other accommodations are ample.
The labor question with coal at war prices worries the boys. A State pike from Owensville to Brown county line and another from Hamilton county line to Williamsburg will provide work for idle men until completion, likely into next year. Labor seekers should apply now. Auto dealers report price drops on most machines with another Ford price reduction, potentially bringing vehicles into reach before fall.
