Registration Day in Clermont County Sees Quiet Polls

Polls opened 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. with countywide calm and many exempted from service due to farm work, disability, or dependents. Clerks worked without pay as the county extends registering periods amid ongoing certification to Washington. A jury draw will select eligible service members, with precinct totals listed for Amelia, Batavia, Felicity, Miami area, and others, totaling the county tally.

Samuel E Cornish was commissioned by Governor James M. Cox to be Justice of the Peace for Miami township on Tuesday. A 1916 Y M C A law school graduate from Cincinnati, he passed the Kentucky and Ohio bar exams and recently became Milford solicitor by village council. Patriotic Meeting At Favrett's Hall Owensville

A patriotic meeting will be held at Favrett's Hall in Owensville on June 19 at 7:80 o'clock to benefit the Red Cross Society. Speakers include Dr. Ter Willegar of Milford A B Nichols and EB Speidel of Batavia. The Batavia Concert Band will provide music. Public invited.

County Board Actions in Batavia Reelects Pattison as Examiner

The County Board of Education met in Batavia on Monday and transacted routine business. E H Pattison, superintendent of the southern district, was reelected county school examiner for a two year term. Amelia school was granted permission to become a first grade high school district. The Amelia board employed John Slye, formerly superintendent, as superintendent.

Lightning hits tree at Penn home along River Road

A bolt during last Friday's storm shattered a large locust tree at the Penn residence on River Road, leaving only a stump. Residents are advised not to seek shelter under trees during storms to avoid danger from lightning.

Liberal Giver Supports New School in Highland County

C F Whisler formerly of New Market Highland county donated 2000 to the local board of education for the new school building. He said he prefers giving while alive to see the benefits and joy his gift brings to students. Milford plans a patriotic July 4 event at Riverside Park followed by a top county baseball game.

Life and Faith of Foster Littleton of Bantam Ohio

Foster Littleton of Bantam Ohio born December 23 1844 in Lewis County Kentucky died May 28 1917 aged 72 years 5 months and 5 days. He married Adaline Bragdon January 5 1869 and left a wife a daughter Rose English a son John Littleton a granddaughter Rose Evelyn Littleton and several brothers. A life of industry honesty and frugality marked by deep faith and love of home he valued nature pruned flowers and looked after birds. He wrote poems and letters to his children weekly and prepared for eternity with steadfast faith in Christ. He was a loyal neighbor and devoted husband and father.

Clermont County Federation of Women’s Clubs Holds 17th Annual Meeting

The Clermont County Federation of Women’s Clubs met in Batavia on June 7 with seven clubs represented. A day of devotions, music by local artists, readings, a notable sketch, and a patriotic luncheon followed, ending with an invitation for 1918.

George Hill Jr and his father on farmland between here and Owensville report a copperhead surge this spring. The son cites killing over 60 copperheads with a small dog aiding in discovery. One specimen was 82 inches long and as thick as a man's wrist. He warns snakes bother no one if left alone.
