State Highway Projects Seek Bids for Clermont County

Highway projects totaling over $1.5 million were bid on June 8 at the State Office Building in Columbus. County list includes 7 proposals across SR 276 SR 132 SR 133 SR 756 and SR 232 with bituminous treatment, covering 26.89 miles. Estimated Clermont costs total $79,040.54 with completion by October 1, 1948.

Miss Virginia Jessee Weds Stevel Baker at Owensville

Miss Virginia Jessee daughter of the Rev C W Jessee married Stevel Baker of Norwood Ohio Saturday June 5 at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church Owensville. The ceremony was by the bride's father with Grady Dalton of Elmwood Place as escort uncle. Mabel Baker maid of honor and Arthur J Batte best man attended. The couple will reside in Norwood with a reception at the bride’s home following.

Guard Company Seeks Recruits in Batavia

Company B of the local National Guard plans to boost strength for summer camp. A recruitment team tours the county this week inviting men ages 17 to 35 to enlist. Interested individuals may call Lt. Neal at Batavia 2218 or 7132, visit the post office for materials, or attend Armory sessions each Monday evening.

Clermont Rangers Set June 14 Meeting at Mt. Carmel

The Clermont County Rangers Mt. Carmel unit will hold its regular quarterly meeting on Monday June 14 at 8 p m in the Mt. Carmel Glen Este school. President James Winnis will mail announcements. The program features a color sound film Working for a living about making baseballs, by MacGregor Goldsmith Inc. Bill Stern narrates. Plans for the summer picnic at Bell's Lakes and details of the rifle shoot led by Odus Lykins will be finalized.

Bowling Green Honors For Former Bethel Resident

Two Columbus educators and a Sandusky paper executive will receive honorary degrees at Bowling Green State University on Friday June 11. Hazel McIntire director of special education for the Ohio Department of Education receives doctor of pedagogy. Harlan H. Hatcher dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Ohio State University earns doctor of laws. Sidney Frohman president of Hin de Dauch Paper Co. earns doctor of business administration. The Columbus natives are noted for long service in education and industry and share ties to Bethel and Zanesville.

Williamsburg Man Bind Over For Grand Jury In Assault

Harold Ellis of Williamsburg is bound over to the Clermont County Grand Jury on a $500 bond for assault and battery after he attempted to injure himself with a razor. He was treated at Batavia and Christ Hospital after losing blood, then returned to jail.

Deel Couple Celebrates 50th Wedding Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Roy G Deel celebrated their 50th anniversary at their son Collard Deels home in Williamsburg with yellow rosebud decorations and a four tier cake. Attendees included their three daughters Louise Clark Monroe Mary Musgrove and Gladys Smith and two sons Colord and Hartman plus relatives Peggy Kautz Edwin Colord Mary Sue and J C Collord.
