The Republican National Convention is in session in Chicago with full state delegations. No balloting yet as press deadlines approach. Early reports name Hughes as a favorite.
Leonard L. Harding of Milford announces a statewide push to organize county Republican clubs and invites all supporters to a Batavia gathering at 1 p m on Wednesday June 16 to hear a Columbus representative and discuss transportation by car for a large turnout.
The Batavia Boy Scouts travel by truck to a site near Ft Ancient in Warren county for an eight day camp. Scout Master Jesse Anderson leads Harold Seyler James Bradley Richard Dial Russell Speidel Fritz Kramer Hugh Weaver Stanley Brothers Henry Smith and Frank Mefford with Eli Speidele assisting. Post office is Magen Ohio R F D.
The recount ends as the court declares Ohio federal constitutional amendments cannot be submitted by referendum in states with such provisions. Clermont ballots ready for shipment will be destroyed. Judge Clevenger relieved of further burden as a lengthy process ends.
Washington reports Republican leaders plan to push protection of Americanism as the campaign issue while denouncing the President for denying any peace peace terms unless tied to the League and 14 points. They claim the envoy’s Paris treaty negotiates seas rights and armaments, and pledge the fight through summer to defend sovereignty.
The Clermont County Election Board met on Monday and awarded the contract for election supplies to be used at the August primary. They also signed up the wet and dry referendum petition on the genuineness of the signatures.
The closing hour for petitions to be filed to be voted upon is Friday, June 11 at 12 o clock midnight. The board will review the signatures for legality five days later.
The Oleander Encampment of the Odd Fellows is invited to Spencer lodge in Cincinnati next Saturday night to confer all three Gegrace on 20 candidates. It promises a fine trip for the boys whose services are in great demand.
Ohio safety campaign urges a splendid Fourth with no smoke or crepe. William J. Leonard, state fire marshal, cites 20 year fatalities and injury figures to promote educated observance. He notes 1915 to 1916 trend: 1,362 killed and 42,089 injured in 12 years, four deaths in Ohio last year, three children, and no burned beds after Washington DC banned fireworks.
Cleona Searles of Batavia is endorsed by the Sixth District Democrats as the Congressional candidate ahead of the August primary. Searles served six years in the auditor's office under W. H. Aiken, filled an unexpired term, won a full term, and recently completed district census work. He now works for the State as assistant examiner in Hamilton County.
Mr Russell Wyatt, famed Reynolds Co buyer on the Ripley tobacco market, traveled from New Richmond Ohio to visit friends. He has left Reynolds to become tobacco warehouse manager at Bailey North Carolina and starts duties in July. Wyatt is son of veteran buyer Geo W Wyatt and known for his success and popularity.
Amy Luella Brunk, born July 9 1869 near Bata via Ohio, died May 28 1920 at Bethesda Hospital at age 50. Survived by husband Thomas R Boyd, two sons Eugene Franklin and Emerson Elsworth, parents, four sisters, brother, and many friends. Eugene served in World War II era. Emerson helped his mother. Active in Farm Woman Cobe, she valued community service and religious faith. Her death followed pneumonia after years of poor health. burial plans reflected her devotion and family ties.

The Clermont County Federation of Woman's Clubs met at Bethel with delegates from Amelia Batavia Loveland Milford New Richmond Williamsburg and Fortnightly Club of Milford. Officers elected included P M Offutt of Amelia as president and Edward Donley Loveland as secretary. Next meeting set for Loveland.
The Batavia Eastern Star announces its annual inspection for Monday evening June 14. All members are expected to attend.
The Stonelick Township Eighth Grade Commencement will be held at Favrer's Hall Owensville on Thursday evening June 10 at 8 o clock Supt Jones of the Amena schools will deliver the class address to 15 graduates Admission 10 cents
Miss Agnes Wasner died on Broadway Monday after weeks of illness. She was a daughter of a mother and leaves three sisters and four brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2:80 Thursday.
The Williamsburg Chautauqua will run August 5 through 9 with a program billed as top quality entertainment for all attendees. Further details will be released later. Harry Mefford, a Batavia Route 1 mail carrier, broke his wrist last Thursday when his Ford knocked him. The break is serious and may cause trouble, while Mrs. Clarence Slade is making lengthy trips for him.
Salvation Army drive reports over 60 dollars raised in a few days with Lowell Roudebush and his solicitors thanked for their noble efforts. David K. Carpenter, formerly of Stonelick township, died suddenly in Cincinnati at age 69, leaving a widow and one daughter. Funeral Saturday with burial at Milford.
Rev. John F. Herget famed as The Fighting Parson will lecture at Batavia Town Hall on Wednesday June 9 at 8 pm. He tops a program featuring Batavia Concert Band vocal solos by George M Shields of Bethel soprano Elizabeth Walter and Batavia Masonic quartet. The Batavia Business Men's Club and Batavia Concert Band present the event.
The Clermont County Experiment Farm reports corn root rot trials on drained and undrained land with and without fertilizers and manure. Diseased corn will be treated with hot water. seed corn from the stalk is cleaner than crib corn. Orchard fertilization tests compare nitrate of soda and ammonium sulfate with acid phosphate in sod mulch and cover crop sections.
County agents from Brown Clinton Highland Ross Warren and Clermont counties gathered at Hills Station on June 1 for a Poultry Culling School led by University experts Dakan Sturgeon and Eastwood. They learned culling non producers to improve returns and prepared for July August sessions across the state with local leaders in Batavia and at Mrs. Reed’s.
Baseball results recap a 8 7 Batavia win over St Bernard Triangles at Highland Park in 10 innings. Felicity defeats Reading Monarchs 8 2 at Felicity. Batavia to face Felicity on June 18 at Felicity grounds with a strong delegation expected.
A married couple brought their disruptive six year old son before Probate Judge Clarence N. Young in Batavia. The boy sets fires, destroys property, has violent outbursts and threats with knives. After hearing two physicians, Judge Young ordered his commitment to the State Board of Administration Bureau of Juvenile Research for treatment.
About thirty men from Goshen and Miami townships visited the Cler mont County Experiment Farm last Saturday to view ongoing tests. The farm showcases farming methods used by county farmers, comparing outcomes across plots with clear results. The annual meeting is planned for the last part of July.
The Food Club led by Miss Mary Marsh of Batavia will host a canning and baking demonstration by a Ohio State University Home Economics instructor. The event is set for Thursday June 10 at 9 30 a m. A separate canning demonstration for Mrs Wittmers group at Elenor is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon June 9. These are the only Food Clubs currently in the county.
The Hamilton county Republican committees unanimously back re nomination of all current state officials. Endorsed are Lieutenant Governor Clarence J. Brown Secretary of State Harvey C. Smith and Attorney General J. Q. Price. The resolution notes they have conscientiously filled their current terms.
A correction clarifies last week's notice on the state pike. The awarded segment runs from Amelia to Bethel with Laub & Billiter, and from Bethel to the Brown county line to VanOsmo Bros. The Amelia to Hamilton county line section likely will be awarded later in the season.
