Democrats Renominate Isaac Huffman for State Senator in Batavia

At a noisy Batavia convention the Democrats renominated Isaac Huffman of Butler county for State Senate amid disputes over procedures and charges of disloyalty. Tensions rose as Warren, Clermont and Brown delegates clashed and a delayed start due to an auto accident delayed proceedings. Huffman secured the nomination without unanimous second.

Alfalfa Experiment In Ohio Near Bethel Area

W M Cook of the Ohio Experiment Station Wooster visited Bethel last week to arrange a two acre alfalfa trial with W W Shinkle. Seed and instruction to be supplied by the station. State Board calls for Farmers Institute applications

The State Board of Agriculture urges all towns and communities to apply for a Farmers Institute soon. Institutes may be placed in new locations this year to reach farmers not in close touch with the program. Applicants will receive blanks for requesting meetings and instructors will be equipped with maps charts graphs and chemicals.

State convention runs Tuesday through Thursday in the Hippodrome Cleveland June 14 to 16. Giffen Renominated for Ohio Circuit Court Judge

Judge William S. Giffen of Hamilton was unanimously chosen as the Republican candidate for the first Ohio judicial district at Beckett's hall. The convention, led by Mayor A. Rothwell, named Giffen after key speeches and committee selections, with delegates apportioned by county and endorsed by Hamilton, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, and Warren counties.

No More Free Lunch In Cincinnati Thirst Parlors

Visitors to Cincinnati thirst parlors and similar Ohio establishments will no longer receive free lunches. Under the Schaefer anti free lunch law passed by the last legislature, free lunch was abolished as of last Thursday. Drinks such as whiskey wine and beer may still be served with lunch for a minimum cost, but no complimentary meals will accompany beverages.

Talley Named New Richmond Postmaster By Senate

The senate confirmed Frank F. Talley for postmaster at New Richmond on Tuesday. Upon receipt of his commission he will assume duties, replacing Charles W. Dawson who has held the office for just over six years.

Grand Army of the Republic Encampment in Xenia 1910

The 1910 annual encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic Department of Ohio will be held in Xenia Ohio on June 14 16 and 16. At the same time the State meeting of the Sons of Veterans Daughters of Veterans Womens Relief Corps and Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic will occur. Col L H Williams will deliver the response for the G A R Department of Ohio. Headquarters for auxiliary groups are listed at the Grand Hotel and Manhattan Hotel. A reception and Greeting Meeting are planned at the courthouse and First Methodist church with an Army parade to follow.
