Batavia School announced essay contest winners for The Wild Animals on May 20. Front row shows Vickie Walters first prize and Brien Walker second prize, both fifth graders. second row includes Danielle Spencer and Andrea Wood with a mention and honorable mention respectively.
Kinder Care Learning Center of Milford marked Family Awareness Month in May with a Family Night featuring guest speaker Jana Hicks of Beech Acres who addressed stress and working parents. Students performed a fashion show and reading readiness graduates received completion certificates.
Live Oaks Student Alfie Hurtado won first place in the Cabinet Making and Millwork contest at the 1983 Ohio VICA Skill Olympics in Columbus. Thirteen area band students were selected for the All Ohio State Fair Band which will perform August 15 to 19 at the Fair, an institution dating back to 1925. Students named include Jimmy Allen, Loren Buskirk, Susan Carter, Patricia Burnett, and others from Bethel Tate and Williamsburg.
Clermont County students read 4351 books and raised 2706 dollars in the MS READ-a-thon. Participants span Amelia Junior High and multiple elementary schools, with top readers and high fundraisers honored. Notable recognitions include Christina Duncan Tara Riffle Tina Elliott Justine Clark and others. Total reads reach 514,879 and donations 606,691 dollars for MS research and services.
Karen Schmidt 17, Milford, a Natural Resources student at the Cincinnati Zoo, studies insects and ecology. She helped in the insect house, joined the Zoologist of Tomorrow club, toured Trinidad in 1981, and placed in Future Farmers of America contests. She aims to pursue entomology and field research, hoping to work at Busch Gardens.
