Batavia 37th Annual Meet and Batavia High School Commencement

The 37th annual Clermont County Federation of Women’s Clubs meeting takes place June 3 at Amelia School Auditorium with host club duties by Amelia Women’s Club. Morning session begins 9 45 with songs devotionals and speeches. Commencement exercises for Batavia Schools held May 28 in Batavia High School Auditorium with 25 graduates and honor students Ralph Hulick Mary Aicholtz and Althea Moyer.

Good Citizen Lanuffler Dies in Cincinnati Hospital

Peter Lanuffler age 64 of Olive Branch died Thursday evening in Cincinnati hospital. Funeral from Olive Branch M E church on Sunday with interment in Olive Branch cemetery. He was a merchant in his hometown for many years and left a widow and four children. He was held in high esteem by all who knew him.

Batavia Alumni Meeting at Batavia High School

Batavia High School hosted its alumni gathering in the school auditorium with Forrest E. Ely presiding. The program included Welcome Address by Judge H L Nichols and remarks from Class of 37 members Mary White Charles G White and Joseph W Fichter. Officers elected: P F Jamieson president Walter Bauer vice president Nina Bethymer secretary Anna Glanoey treasurer. A PTA menu was served: fruit cocktail creamed chicken browned potatoes creole beans spring salad ice cream cake coffee. Black Cats play by Pomona and Batavia Granges

A play titled Black Cats will be presented Tuesday evening June 8 at 8 o clock. Admission is 26 cents for adults and 10 cents for children under 14. Eight adult tickets grant one free child ticket. The performance occurs at Batavia High School Auditorium and all are invited. Members are urged to attend.

Hand in Hand Club Thanks Contest Entrants

At Amelia Baptist church Hand in Hand class meeting a unanimous vote of thanks was extended to all entrants in the amateur contest. Grateful appreciation is given to everyone who helped make the contest a success. Funds cleared totaled 117 dollars. Christina Reed secretary.

4-H Forward Workers Meet at Goshen

The May 1 meeting of 4-H Forward Workers at Goshen featured a 100% banner. Noted upcoming events include an officers and readers conference on June 1 and Cony Island Day on June 24. Curtailed Farm Operations Reported After May Rain

Ohio State University extension department released survey results showing curtailed farming in many counties due to heavy May rainfall and cool weather. Planting has been bypassed in some areas and no attempt will be made to plant corn fields. Prospects for fruit yields are described as bright.

Clermont County Men's Brotherhood enters second year

The Clermont County Men's Brotherhood began its second year with a meeting at Summerside M E church. Rev. Thomas Mathers of Terrace Park spoke, John Huntington led singing, Brice Hendrixson sang, and Jack Roslow played piano. Officers were re elected. Fred Croswell and Ray Cody were named vice presidents. A meeting schedule will follow.

Decoration Day Observed in Clermont County Towns

Decoration Day was observed in Clermont county with orderly processions and abundant flowers. The Batavia High School Band and Forestville Boy Scout Drum and Bugle Corps led a march from the Armory to the bridge and Union Cemetery, where brief services were held.

Petition State to Take Over 2 More Roads

At the May 24 commissioners meeting the board moved resolutions to petition the State Highway Department to take over Marathon Five Mile and Beechwood Road, requiring a 50 foot right of way. Other measures include care for Lawrence Wayt at $50 monthly, transportation funds for Edith Johnson to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and building material purchases for county offices. A number of road improvements and expenditures were approved with all yeas.

Testimonial Dinner Honors Covington Superintendent G O Swing

Supt. Glenn O. Swing was feted at a testimonial dinner May 22 at the Hotel Gibson marking ten years as Covington public schools head. About five hundred patrons and friends praised his steady rise from rural Clermont to Covington high schools and district leadership.

Grange Memorial program set at Batavia School Auditorium

Final plans for the Grange Memorial program finalize for Batavia School Auditorium on Sunday June 6 at 2 pm The event honors Grangers who died over the past year A chorus of forty voices led by Mr Smith of Williamsburg will perform Walter F Kirk master of the Ohio State Grange will be present as guest speaker The public is invited to attend this memorial ceremony.
