Gas Expansion Aims to Serve West Loveland and Loveland

Cincinnati Gas & Electric begins a 400000 dollar expansion to supply natural gas to West Loveland and Loveland. The project adds nine miles of 12 inch welded steel main crossing the Little Miami River north of the Loveland bridge. Completion to West Loveland is planned for late July with Loveland by late August.

Bus Crash Injures 31 Children. Driver Fined

Thirty one school children from Hamlet Seventh-day Adventist school escaped injury when the bus carrying them to Ft Ancient crashed into a car near the Norfolk and Western trestle. Driver Mrs Alice V Cox, 44, of Amelia, was fined $25 and costs for an expired license following state patrol and Batavia police investigation.

Clermont County Extens ion Advisory Hires John Ruoff

The Clermont County Extension Advisory Committee recommended to OSU trustees hiring John Ruoff as associate county extension agent to replace Harold Merkle who moved to Shelby County on Feb 1. Ruoff, a current OSU senior set to graduate in June with a BS in agricultural education, will be married June 18 to Ann Kay Neff and will move to Clermont County.

Cancer Drive Nets $580 At Batavia

Batavia township raised 580.91 for the cancer drive this year. Mrs. Edgar Mosbacker, township chairman, thanked helpers and donors and emphasized cooperation to make the campaign successful.

Welfare Department Moves to New Batavia Office

The County Welfare Department began moving from the courthouse to 333 Main St in Batavia announced by welfare director Wayne Oney. The county board of education seeks the vacated space for a larger staff, and commissioners will meet Friday to discuss the request.

Good Government League Set To Meet In Clermont County

The Clermont County Good Government League will convene at 8 p.m. Wednesday June 7 in the Courier Building public meeting room. President Nellie Mattox Amelia urged residents that attendance is open to non members.

Acting Health Commissioner Named for Clermont County

Dr. Joseph W. Still of Doylestown Pa will arrive about June 15 to serve as acting health commissioner and advisory consultant. The Clermont County board of health approved a temporary contract at 1400 dollars a month for three to six months with 10 days notice for termination after three months. The board also named Dr. Schulze chairman to fill a vacancy and amended milk inspection rules to accept Cincinnati health authorities’ inspections.

Car Crash Injures Two Men Near Mauch Road

Billy G. Bell aged 30 of Batavia and Joseph Koepke 22 of Williamsville sustained leg fractures when their car struck a pole on Rt. 125 near Mauch Road. Both were hospitalized at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, Mariemont.

Milford youth wins Insurance Agents scholarship honor

Donald MacLean of Milford high school topped four years of high grades earning a $500 scholarship from the Clermont County Association of Insurance Agents and a $4520 Streitmann Biscuit Company scholarship to UC. He was honored at a May 26 dinner with other top students and held roles in Student Council National Honor Society basketball and golf. William Keitzman also earned a $5000 scholarship to Michigan State University.

Thief Takes $750 From Noon Mass at St. Veronica

Authorities search for a thief who stole 750 dollars from Sunday noon mass at St. Veronica Church MT. CARMEL. The collection included a building fund offering. The money was in a bank bag reported as from First National Bank or 5th Third Bank. Youths who served earlier mass provided a description after mistaking the thief for an usher.

Man Struck by Car on Rt 52. Driver Exonerated

Paul M. Wiggins 55 suffered multiple fractures and head cuts when he ran in front of a car on Rt 52 last Friday. He was taken to Bethesda Hospital in fair condition. Driver Robert W. Burns 39 of Highland Heights Ky was exonerated by witnesses. State Highway Patrol said Wiggins ran into the road as he tried to cross.

Civic Leader Walter B Howard Promoted to Development Engineer

Walter B Howard of Summerside is promoted to development engineer at Cincinnati and Suburban Bell Telephone Company. He will coordinate a staff forecasting telephone growth for eight counties. Howard, a Hobart College and Syracuse University alumnus, is active in Clermont County United Appeal and local civic groups. He and wife Jeanne have five children.

County Approves Subdivision Road Inspection Regulations

County commissioners approved new inspection rules proposed by County Engineer Carl H. Rush effective today June 1 to oversee subdivision street and road construction. Regulations require inspections of roads storm and sanitary sewers and water lines within road right of way with developers paying 5 percent of road costs 2 percent for water and storm sewer installs and 2 percent for sanitary sewer inspections. Surplus funds go back to the developer. A 48 hour notice before construction must be filed with the county engineer. Inspections will be conducted by firms hired for each job.
