Felicity-Franklin Township sailor S-1C William Staats of the Air Forces, stationed in California, delivered important papers after sustaining scalp cuts and a skull fracture. State police escorted him to complete the mission and return to base where he was commended by officers. Mr and Mrs Staats of Felicity were informed of the commendation.

American Legion Honors Two Batavia High Seniors

Batavia soldiers on furlough recount Arctic duty and Alaska scenes. Sgt Robert Ayer, two years at Ladd Field near Fairbanks, is visiting with his parents after three years away. Dale J Smith, stationed at Elmendorf Field and later in Grape Air Depot, earned promotion to corporal and sent wood craft samples home. He attended Batavia High School and Withrow High School Cincinnati and recently finished his freshman year at Miami University Oxford Ohio.
