Legion Seeks Old Records for Shellac Drive

Earle B. Kincaid Clermont County Commander reports a 13 700 quota of old phonograph records for the American Legion drive. Posts collected their shares to ship the shellac for reclamation funds to buy new records for service members. Citizens should contact their local Legion post commander to donate unused records.

Sterling Club hosts East Fork Progressive at Brown county home

Members of Sterling Club of Brown and East Fork Progressive club met last Thursday at Mrs. Pearl Ashton’s home. After business, a varied program included recitations, readings, piano solos, a flag salute, duets, skits, and contests. A social hour followed with refreshments. East Fork club will visit East Hill club next Thursday.

Mayor's Wife Injured in Fall at Camp Party

Mrs Harriett Dennison wife of Batavia's mayor fell at the Dennison camp party for former Police Chief Burl Brooks home on furlough from an army camp in Louisiana. She broke her hip after stepping on a loose stone and was taken to the hospital by order of Dr. Ashburn.

Miss Kain Sings With Band At Thursday Concert

Soloist Miss Virginia Kain will sing with band accompaniment at this Thursday’s concert performing Love Sent A Little Gift of Roses and The White Cliffs of Dover. The program features Sousa marches Semper Fidelis King Cotton and Stars and Stripes Forever. Next week August 6 guest conductor Mr P F Jamieson leads the band. The band has been engaged for the Clermont County Fair.

Car Truck Crash Kills Isaac Friend Near Erin Town

Monday at 7 30 p m a Kahle Oil Co gasoline truck driven by Earl Huntley collided with a Model A Ford driven by Isaac Friend near Erin Town on Wolf Pen Road. The 62 year old Friend died en route to the hospital. The Kahle truck was badly wrecked and the Friend car was nearly a total loss.

Stone Named as CDC Head in Ohio Defense Unit

Ralph H. Stone was named acting director of the Ohio State Council of Defense to lead civilian and industrial protection efforts. He urged local defense councils to boost volunteer enrollment and stressed civilian protection in air raid or sabotage scenarios. Stone, a former American Legion state commander, succeeds Courtney Burton by appointment of Gov. Bricker.
