Milford Mourns First War Casualty in Two World Wars
Milford reports the death of Staff Sgt. Stanley J. Glaney of R. R. 1 as the first Milford casualty in battle. He died June 11 in Normandy after landing in France on D day with the 12th Infantry, 4th Division. His wife Mildred Glancy and six month old Dolly Joe survive along with his parents Albert and Mrs. Glancy in Portsmouth Virginia and grandmother Mrs. Melvin Hall in Amelia.

Marine Pvt. Nicholas Lawrence White, son of Mr and Mrs N J White of Williamsburg Ohio, has graduated from the Infantry and Browning Automatic Rifle Section School at Camp Pendleton California. He completed training with the B A R M 1 Garand and Carbine rifles, hand grenades and anti tank grenades and learned jungle warfare bayonet and knife use. White, born July 5 1925 in Williamsburg, is a 1948 Williamsburg High School graduate and attended The Citadel briefly before enlisting October 18 1943 in Cincinnati.
