Street Dance to Benefit Mt Carmel Baseball League

The Mt Carmel Glen Este Booster Club hosts an 8 p.m. street dance on Saturday July 28 at the Thriftway lot at Rt 32 and Mt Carmel Tabasco. Bill Shinkle's Stardusters perform and prizes include a stereo radio, six transistor radios, a watch, a humidifier and a portable record player. Proceeds fund the community baseball knot hole and girls softball programs. The club lists substantial equipment purchases this year and notes two more ball fields are being prepared to reach six total.

Milford To Have Distribution Center For Polio Vaccine

Clermont County and Health officials announce a mass polio immunization day at South Milford School from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday August 5. The event, second in a three site series, expands to five centers including Milford South Bethel Mt Carmel New Richmond High and Batavia Courthouse to deliver Sabin Type 1 and other oral vaccines for all ages.

Milford Landlords Endorse Shelter Plan Move

Milford property owners largely approved a Civil Defense request to convert suitable buildings into fall-out shelters. County officials reported most Milford owners responded after a slow start, with the program now moving forward under federal shelter guidelines.

Rites Today For Child Victim Of Car Mishap

Funeral services for two and a half year old Holly Anne Channer of Hamilton are set for 10 am at Moore funeral home Batavia with interment in Oakhill Cemetery Glendale. She died after being struck by a car in front of her home and suffered head injuries. Police report she stepped from in front of her father's parked car into a vehicle driven by Joy D Campbell 20. Survived by her parents two brothers Doug and Todd and is the great granddaughter of Dr F M Oxley.

Progress Report on County Conservation Drive

Carey Thompson, chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee, says the drive to enroll farmers in conservation practices is succeeding. The RAD program aims to raise income for underemployed farmers and develop off-farm employment. By July 18, Clermont County commuters enrolled 174 new farms for the 1962 ACP, with 52 farms completing practices by summer.

BUC Office To Move To New Quarters

The Batavia Ohio Bureau of Unemployment Compensation office will relocate to the former Wasner Aley hardware building on Main Street. The building, bought by Elmer Kramer, is being remodeled to house the BUC and Kramer Myers Insurance Agency.

Youths Held In Attempted Car Theft Front Of Pharmacy

Three juveniles were taken in custody after two tried to steal the Batavia dairy manager Jess Rinehart’s car in front of Blocher’s Pharmacy. A 14-year-old, his 12-year-old brother, and a 12-year-old neighbor attempted to start the car and fled when confronted. The oldest and the neighbor were arrested. the brother was found hiding in a culvert on Rt. 222.

Batavia Schools Set to Open September First

Batavia elementary and high schools will open September 4 with a 9 a.m. faculty meeting at the high school. First grade registration runs August 15 to 17 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 2 p.m. in the elementary building with immunization records birth certificates and report cards required.

The Heart Association of Greater Cincinnati announced at its June 28 1962 annual meeting at the Academy of Medicine Building that Dr F S Skeen and Mrs Donald Domer were elected to the board of trustees. New officers for 1962 63 include Thomas A Bittenbender Dr Frank Princi Halli C Park and Harold H Kassen. The Heart Fund campaign for 1962 is projected to raise nearly 230000.

Youth Caravaners To Visit In County

The four young Caravaners will visit Point Isabel as guests of the United Church of Christ arriving July 27. Leader Barbara Hofrighter from Madison and fellow members Steven Olson Carol Sylvester and John Voigts will promote youth work and hold several meetings. They will be welcomed with a folk game party and conduct a youth service at the church.

Northeastern To Vote On 465000 Bond Issue

Clermont Northeastern voters will decide on a 465000 bond issue to fund a 400 pupil junior high school, additions to the high school, and building sites. Architects Sullivan Isaacs and Sullivan of Cincinnati design plans for the project on U S 50 near Owensville. The district serves Owensville Marathon Newtonsville with current staff for one eighth grade and one high school instructor.

Burns Hospitalize Eleven Year Old

Milford reports an eleven year old boy named Arthur Roeder Jr. was badly burned when gasoline thrown on a campfire exploded. The incident occurred on Vera Cruz Pike near 714 Vera Cruz at about 9:00 p.m. He was rushed to Children's Hospital by Milford Life Squad for extensive treatment.

Union Township to consider third library branch

Clermont County plans call for a 40 by 80 foot building by Gene Romohr near the Mt. Carmel Tabasco medical building for a new Union Township branch library in addition to Batavia and Milford. A zoning variance to allow a library in a residential zone is requested. A public hearing is set for 8 p.m. August 8 at Union Township hall.

Death by own action verdict in Wolfe case

A death by own action verdict was issued for Joseph A. Wolfe 23 of New St Batavia by county coroner Dr A A Gruber. Wolfe died from a shotgun wound to the abdomen at his home Sunday afternoon. Services were held Wednesday at Moore funeral home. He is survived by his wife three children his parents Mr and Mrs Dan Wolfe two brothers and seven sisters.

Test Drilling For New Wells Begins In Loveland

Loveland starts test drilling to obtain two new wells with six test holes planned. City manager William Shawhan notes rainfall has recharged the Little Miami River and Loveland’s well fields, allowing water restrictions to be lifted.

Model Home Open In Woodland Acres

A model home opens in Woodland Acres on Meadowview Drive Mulberry as the first of twelve homes. Mrs. Buschbacher oversees daily inspections while builder William Hundley sells Woodland Acres homes from 18500 to 21000. The model features a large living room dining room equipped kitchen a family room with a wood burning fireplace three bedrooms and multiple baths.
