Traffic Toll Concerns Rise in Batavia Main Street Accidents

Batavia Police Chief C N Ward says 54 traffic accidents have occurred up to July 23 this year, up from 41 in 1967, with 17 injuries in nine incidents and $10 785 in property damage. He cites heavy Main Street traffic and violations such as wrong lane turns and improper signals as key factors. No deaths so far this year. A second issue is noisy motorcycle riders in residential areas prompting discussions on stricter curfew enforcement for juveniles and adults. Court Upholds Zoning Ruling In Union Two

Common Pleas Judge Harold D. Nichols orders Argo & Co. to remove outside operating equipment and trailers from 524 Cincinnati-Batavia Pike. The 1.58 acre site in a community business zone had housed a cement mixing operation with vehicles outside. The ruling allows inside-building activity but bans outside operations except five trucks.

Train crash injures man hurled from car after derailment

Spencer C. Cotton, 19, of Mt Washington, was taken to Our Lady of Mercy Hospital after a southbound Goshen Road car failed to negotiate a curve, rolled down a 100 foot embankment, and struck a passing train. Cotton was cut and in fair condition. State patrolman M J Lashley freed him by cutting the wire.

County Farm Groups Plan Annual Farmers Picnic

Plans are set for the Annual Farmers' Picnic on Aug 3 at Sportsmen's Park, S.R. 222 south of Batavia. The event, open to all, runs from 10 a.m. with food brought by participants, park shelter facilities, a full program including 4 H Clubs, a fife and drum corps, remarks, games, music, a talk on violence, door prizes, and a flag lowering to close.

Congressman Wayne L Hays of Ohio 18th District will headline the seventh annual county-wide picnic at Clermont Sportsman's Park near Batavia. Grand Event Auction to Fight Cancer in Clermont County

The Clermont County American Cancer Society launches a public auction called the Grand Event at 7 p.m. August 10 in Amelia Lions Club Park, with merchandise display from noon. UC Approves Clermont Branch Plan Near Batavia Airport

The University of Cincinnati academic planning committee approved a Clermont County branch proposal for technical studies to serve the area near Batavia’s county airport. The plan centers on aircraft maintenance technology and envisions a facility modeled after the Raymond Walters Branch in Blue Ash.

Bethel Woman Dies In Crash

The death of 37 year old Ruth I Garrad of 306 Plane Street Bethel occurred early Monday. She died on arrival at Our Lady hospital after her eastbound car on SR 125 collided head on with John J Lung Jr 30 of 2594 Williamsburg Batavia Pike Batavia. Lung was treated at Marie Mont Hospital for facial lacerations and a shoulder injury. A second accident near Loveland caused $3000 damage to two walls and a home. Rodney L Driscoll 24 of 202 Kibbey Avenue Morrow drove his car off the road into a culvert then a tree and into Elizabeth C Yorks home at 6343 Guinea Pike. Driscoll was treated at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital for minor injuries and cited for speeding and driving while suspended.

Postal Service Change Coming in Clermont County

First and second class offices in Clermont County will change operations starting Saturday July 27. The lobby will be closed on Saturdays for public access while mail is received and dispatched through lock boxes. Batavia Milford Amelia Bethel Felicity Goshen New Richmond Williamsburg offices affected. Patrons should buy stamps during the week and mail early Saturday to ensure on schedule dispatch.

County Accepts Bid On Goshen Bridge Repair

County commissioners accepted a low bid of 10,675 by Reliance Universal of Newport for furnishing pre stressed concrete for a Goshen Road bridge in Goshen Township. They also approved restriping M Carmel Tabasco Road and added no passing signs. Easements were granted by Bonham and Ballman families for highway purposes.
