Clermont County Caravan Heads to Hamilton for Citizenship Day

A Republican caravan of 50 plus vehicles from Clermont County will meet at Milford Bridge on Wednesday July 31 at 5 p m and travel to the Butler County Fair Grounds Hamilton for the Governor's Citizenship Day rally. Governor Bricker will speak at 8 p m on Citizenship as part of an all day program with sports games bands and entertainment. The event aims to boost Americanism and civic spirit with participation invited from eight southwestern Ohio counties.

Masons from Yeatman Lodge Visit Felicity Lodge

About 50 Masons from Yeatman lodge in Cincinnati motored to Felicity Friday night and conferred the eighth degree. Visitors from other places attended. A nice lunch followed the meeting at the School Auditorium. Walter Krekeler William Bender Charles Shinkle and E S Rush attended from Batavia.

Clermont County farms count 1940 census update

The preliminary 1940 Census of Agriculture count for Clermont County Ohio shows 3477 farms as of April 1 1940, down from 4007 on January 1 1935 and up from 3022 on April 1 1930. Figures are preliminary and subject to correction. Wray Bevens, Supervisor of Census.

Taxable Sales Rise in Clermont County First Half 1940

Taxable sales in Clermont county rose sharply in the first six months of 1940, outpacing Ohio's state totals. State collections reached 24,472,878.70 dollars, up 10.4 percent, while Clermont county reported 55,080.95 dollars, a 24.9 percent gain. The county's six month total increased 366,504.00 dollars compared with 1989.

Body recovered from Ohio River after drowning incident

The body of 14 year old Jack Van Winkle was recovered Monday morning from the Ohio River below Dam No 35 at New Richmond after a drowning the previous Saturday. George Schomberg of Cincinnati aided in the rescue and the body was taken to T P White and Son Funeral Home.

Williamsburg Radio Debuts Reds Talk From Sportsmen's Cafe

A Cincinnati area radio feature titled You're The Manager airs from Williamsburg at 12 15 noon Eastern time with WKRC hosts George Sutherland and Mike Hunnicutt. Coca Cola Bottling Works sponsors the talks inviting local fans to share Reds and league views during baseball season. The program runs six days weekly from Greater Cincinnati origins, using Cincinnati station time. After each show listeners receive a free bottle ticket.

Physician Dr H E Cover Dies After Long Illness

Dr H E Cover 68 a Bantam physician died at home at 8 A M Monday after months of heart and kidney illness. Born in Clermont county he practiced about 44 years in Bantam and remained active in office work despite illness. Funeral from Mt. Washington T P White and Son on Wednesday July 24 at 2 30 P M with Rev Burton Garrett officiating. He leaves his mother Mary 90 and his wife Mary Alberta who died two years ago. Driver's Safety Clinic at State Fair Aug 24

Ohio's first comprehensive Driver's Safety Clinic will join the State Fair Road Show on August 24. The clinic offers free tests of driving ability using more than a dozen apparatus. Governor Bricker addressed a luncheon of the Ohio Traffic Safety Council where plans were announced.

Speakers Set for Washington Township GOP Meeting

The Washington Township Citizens Republican Club will host an open air meeting Monday evening July 29 at 8 in Pt Isabell School yard. Amelia Youth Takes Oath at U S Naval Academy

Wayne Nichols Fitzpatrick of Amelia passed his physical and took the oath as midshipman at the U S Naval Academy Annapolis on July 17 1940 at age 18 and class of 1939. He earned two scholarship medals and was on the dean's list at the University of Cincinnati. He ranked first among Sixth District of Ohio candidates in the 1939 designation exam and previously worked as Junior Inspector at Glenn Martin Aircraft Plant.

Goshen Man Arrested for Dis orderly Conduct in Ohio

Charles Austin of Goshen, 45, was arrested early Sunday at Weaver's Tavern on Route 28 by Sheriff Garland G. Auxier on charges of dis orderly conduct and assault and battery. He, in a intoxicated condition, struck at his wife and then struck another woman when the first blow missed.

Motorcycle crash kills John Glancy in Ohio

John Glancy 29 of Afton was killed when his motorcycle crashed head on into a 3 ton gravel truck at Ohio Sand and Gravel Co on Route 74 near Newtown. The truck driver Walter Stewart of Cincinnati was reportedly turning left as Glancy’s speed prevented avoidance. Glancy’s body burned in the wreck. fire extinguished by responders before removal. Stewart faces manslaughter charges. Glancy was en route to Cincinnati for work.
