Clermont County YWCA hosts August Auguries in Batavia on Saturday August 23 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Main Street will feature entertainment and events. A baby contest with two age categories 0-18 months and 19 months to three years is planned. For booth space and baby photo contest details call 732-0450.
Clermont County Chamber hosts a program with media industry and education partners for Free Enterprise Week at Eastgate Mall. Exhibits depict success stories and the impact on county development and living standards. Sales by exhibitors are prohibited. spaces offered on a first come basis to Chamber members.
The Good Doctor by Neil Simon will be staged at 8 p.m. July 25 26 and 27 at Calvin Presbyterian Church 1177 W Ohiopike Amelia. Clermont County Youth Services produces directed by Tom Peters with local junior and senior high actors. Admission is free. For information call 732-7182 or 732-7175.
The Clermont County Chess Championship will be held August 2 weekend at the Union Township Library on Mt Carmel Tabasco Road. It is a four round Swiss open to Clermont residents and United States Chess Federation members. Fee and details are given by sponsor Clermont County Chess Club president Nick Glaug at 753-4848.
At the Golden Ray Tavern Bethel Route 125 the First Annual Muscular E Music Night features Marilyn Gaed Ciape Mite Welled the Cheet Riders WUBE’s Marv Kramer Jimmy Williams and Bear MC duties with WSAI’s John Marx present to challenge all. The event runs July 27 from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. with separate dances and entertainment.
An ice cream social hosted by Belfast Methodist church SA.131 will take place on August 2 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Attendees can enjoy sandwiches pies cakes and drinks in a community gathering promoting country music.

A new elementary school facility was approved at 2.1 million to serve Amelia students, a one story open concept building.
Common Pleas Judges Ralph Hill Louis Schwartz and Probate and Juvenile Judge Lawrence Carlier met with commissioners at noon to outline plans to handle rising caseloads. Schwartz noted 589 cases per term and Hill over 500, calling 800 to 850 unacceptable and proposing arbitration with three lawyers to hear non essential cases.
Clermont officials halted Fran Schkwiermann’s motion as commissioners failed to reach a second. Jerome Vente Wid claimed bias due to employment at Super X Drugs, a Kroger affiliate. A 7.5 acre site at SR 125 and SR 132 valued at $225,000 was proposed for a 34,000 square foot supermarket and a Super X Drug store. Bissantz, previously supportive of industrial revenue bonds, suggested voters favored the plan, though others disagreed.
