Prisoner Escapes From Clermont County Jail
Solomon Bennett of New Richmond escaped from the Clermont County Jail in Batavia last Sunday night between 7:80 and 10 oclock. Sheriff Williams found the two cells unlocked and the door open though he had the keys. Moore, another inmate, said he was unaware of the escape as they read the Bible and listened to church singing. Residents question whether escape was due to neglect or outside help and urge jail repairs to avoid future costs.

Mrs Miller wife of Elmer Miller a former blacksmith ran an auto near Mor row lost control and plunged over a high embankment both she and her three year old child were seriously hurt with little hope for the child’s recovery and the mother not fatally injured.

Two Former Batavia Teachers Visit Old Friends
Mrs Kate Wright McKibben of Norwood and Mrs Mary Lane of Hoboken New York arrived in Batavia to spend a few days with friends and relatives. Both taught in Batavia schools in the 1880s and have since held steady teaching positions, McKibben in Norwood and Lane in Hoboken, with Lane visiting Batavia for the first time since 1896.

Margaret A Meyer daughter of Henry and Sarah Meyer was born near Wilhiamsville Clermont county Ohio October 18 1847 and died July 17 1918 at her home near Amelia Ohio aged 65 8 29. She married Jacob Grob May 26 1871 and had six children Louise Dunham Joseph H Florence Fehl Edward P Clara and Wm C Clara died in infancy. She united with Baptist church at Palestine later joining Withamaville Baptist church and remained a faithful mother husband and grandmother. She spoke of a home in Heaven and her life featured patience and spiritual devotion despite illness.
