Villages Step Up Bid To Split Payroll Tax Revenue

Villages around Cincinnati plan a campaign to require cities to share payroll taxes with workers’ home areas. A meeting at Mariemont August 17 will invite Ohio Municipal League officials to push for state legislation. Leaders aim to back a tax share law despite opposition from the municipal league.

Levy Discussed for County Tuberculosis Care Funding

County officials and members of the Health and Welfare Council met with commissioners to discuss a one fourth mill TB levy on the November ballot. The plan would fund hospitalization for TB patients unable to pay, with about $30,000 needed next year. The levy would not fund the Health Department or TB Association, and taxpayers would pay roughly $1.25 per average home.

Executive head named at Goshen

Goshen schools have appointed Robert Gower 51 as executive head. He comes with nine years of education administration including Tuscarawas Valley and Indian Lake districts. Gower has bachelor’s from Otterbein and a master’s from Miami. he is father of four.

Al Nieters Named To District Post

Alvin C. Nieters of Mt. Carmel is hired as supervisor of transportation and maintenance for the West Clermont school district. The district, operating 40 buses, purchased six new 66 passenger buses and gears up for fall term with roof work on Mt. Carmel and classroom space conversion in Amelia.

Woman challenges village rule on gas station placement

Mrs. Geneva Conover, Milford property owner, asks Common Pleas Court to compel village building inspector to issue a permit for a new gasoline service station. Judge Darrell Hottie took the case under advisement after hearing arguments that the 150 yard separation rule is a safety measure.

Six Transferred From County Jail to State and Reformatories

Six inmates were moved from Clermont County jail to the Ohio Penitentiary and Mansfield Reformatory. At the penitentiary were Robert Byrd 43 Be thel sentenced to 13 years for non support James Blanton Rt 4 Batavia 1 20 years for forgery and three 1 5 year terms on four housebreaking charges. At Mansfield were William Kabel Rt 4 Batavia an indefinite term for breaking and entering James Dolch 27 New York 1 2 years for non support and William Liggett 25 New Richmond 1 15 years for aiding and abetting forgery.

Oney Named President of Southwestern Ohio Welfare Group

Wayne Oney of Clermont County Welfare directs elected president of the Southwestern Ohio District Welfare Directors Association succeeding Warren Harding of Butler County. Examiner To Aid Vendors In Filing Current Returns

An examiner will be stationed at the old post office building in Batavia on July 27 28 to help vendors file the current return for Jan 1 to Jun 30. Vendors should bring last return four records of stamp purchases a gross sales record and exempt sales details to avoid the $1 per day delinquency penalty. Three Men Charged With Robbing Inn

Three Loveland men were arrested and charged with burglarizing Circle Inn in Steeleville early Saturday. Louis E. Conner 19 Teddie Paytes 23 and Benjamin Hacket 20 will be arraigned in Clermont County Court at 4 50 p m. Sheriff Clyde Dericks said liquor cigarettes and other items were taken and some found Monday along a Warren County road.

Detour Re Routed After Complaint

Milford officials rerouted Rt. 68 detour between Mt. Repose and Goshen on Saturday after trucks overturned and mudblocked Woodville Pike. Traffic now travels Milford to Goshen via US 50 Rt. 131 Williams Corner and Rt. 132.

Massive smokestack to rise at Beckford Station in Clermont County

Clermont County will gain a 515 foot smokestack at the Walter C. Beckford Station as part of a $133 million investment by Cincinnati Gas & Electric. The project includes $27.5 million for a new generating unit, $5.8 million for substations, and $3.5 million for transmission facilities to support a planned 250000 kilowatt unit and a sixth unit in the future. Sargent & Lundy of Chicago designs the stack to serve both units, with a 59 foot diameter cribhouse and a water intake system sunk into the river bed. The plan also adds a second coal tipple, harbor upgrades for jumbo barges, and a new towboat to move coal.

Speed Limit Cut Granted on Amelia Ol ive Branch Road

County commissioners won approval from state highway director E S Preston to reduce speeds on Amelia Olive Branch Road and install a three way stop at Lucy Run Road. A traffic study by County Engineer Carl H Rush supported the request. Preston said the Bureau of Traffic will prepare an entry authorizing 35 45 mph limits.
