The Batavia to Olive Branch state pike contract with Thurber & Co. was forfeited after the subcontractor absented themselves to Cincinnati leaving the road unfinished. The auditor and Commissioner Cowen reported the delay with August 1 completion unmet. The contract may be reset August 6 with daily forfeiture to spur timely completion.

Midnight alarm called the Bethel fire department to Union street where Miss Hassie Crane owned home occupied by two families. Water pressure failed as the engine refused to respond, forcing a bucket brigade to control the blaze discovered by a neighbor. Both families were absent.

Fred Trump, an 85 year old widower from near Felicity, faced arson charges after allegedly burning his barn in 1912 to collect 150 dollars. Clifford Kain Dies in Cincinnati After Stroke
Clifford Kain 58 formerly of this place died at his Cincinnati home last Monday after months with paralysis from a stroke. He leaves a widow a son and a daughter two brothers Frank and Herbert of this place and Will of Cincinnati. Former Cincinnati Post Co. employee he was well liked. Funeral at his residence Tuesday evening and burial at Batavia Wednesday.

Escapes Drowning In Moscow Coal Barges
Emily Pitts 22 of Brooklyn New York narrowly avoided drowning near Moscow last Saturday when suction from moving coal barges pulled her under. Men unloading coal freed her, she was under water five minutes before revival by Dr Purkhiser. She recovers at his sanitarium amid local praise.
