Growth a sure thing for Clermont County future
Clermont County is projected to grow through 1995 and beyond, led by housing expansion and upper middle class residents. Bank One Milford president John Burtchnell cites land, water, roads, and nearby Ohio River bridge as growth assets while noting improvements in consumer confidence. Projections show population rising markedly by 2005, with Union and Miami townships driving most growth and Goshen expanding due to the O Bannon Creek sewer system.

Townships consider change as Clermont County grows
Clermont County townships face shifts from rural to urban settings with Union and Miami townships most likely to pursue incorporation into a city. Linda Wuerdeman advocates incorporation for Union to gain services, faster building permits, a payroll tax base, and access to grants, while Miami Township officials prefer maintaining township government for its personal touch and lower overhead. Other trustees cite the value of local control and prompt problem solving in the present system.

County approves 1986 budget plan in special session
Clermont County commissioners adopt a 1986 budget projecting general fund receipts near 14.5 million and expenditures just under 14 million leaving 72,720 for 1987. The plan doubles the county property tax limit for building construction and separates jail costs from the sheriff, with automatic data processing to be reconsidered. Disaster services funding drops and civil defense may receive federal distributions. The general fund relies mainly on a 1 percent sales tax and property taxes, with total tax valuation over 1.17 billion dollars including residential, commercial, and personal property.
