Hogue and Roadrunner conquer 100 mile Old Dominion endurance
Merrill Hogue of Goshen Township finished the 100 mile Old Dominion endurance race in 26 hours 30 minutes, the 21st of 27 finishers from 57 starters. He completed the course in Front Royal, Virginia with his Arabian gelding Roadrunner, becoming the first man and second racer to complete the event on foot and horseback. They planned another 100 miler at Purina Race of Champions near Sedalia, Colorado, two weeks later, finishing in the top 10, aided by a crew including his son Bill and Mark Walker. The Nor th east team claimed the team championship and Hogue won a $750 saddle in a postrace drawing.
