Batavia Adopts Budget and Rules on Zoning and Recreation

Batavia Council adopted a 1970 budget of 183539 dollars with 54600 earmarked for the general fund. It moved to enforce zoning after a mobile home was relocated on West Main Street in violation and planned to form a recreation board with school and village resources. Speed limit signs will be installed on upper Main Street to curb speeding toward the Ridge Club.

Amelian Naval Officer Leads Lunar Mission Training Crew

Captain Pittman, son of Mrs. Beulah Bramel of 25 Woodruff Lane, Amelia, directs Apollo simulation and telemetry at Houston NASA center. A 1961 Cumberland College graduate, he joined the Air Force in 1961, served in the Navy, and trained ground controllers for moon shot projects with Project Gemini support.

Money lubricates Wheels of Justice

The Clermont County court system spent 427045 dollars in 1968 to fund sheriff, court of appeals, common pleas, domestic relations and juvenile courts, probate, clerks, and county and municipal courts. Carl Ritter announced the Clermont County Association of Trustees and Clerks will hold its annual picnic at Stonelick Lake Park starting 5 p.m. Thursday, with food at 7 p.m. The association provides meat and drinks. members bring a covered dish.

Retarded School Bond Issue On Clermont Ballot

Clermont County commissioners planned to put a $1,025,000 bond issue for a new school for retarded children on the November ballot. The request came from the County Board of Mental Retardation. Proceeds would stay in the county and a public hearing drew no attendees. The budget approved was $1,247,500, equal to revenue certified by the county auditor, with a general fund reduction from 1969 levels.

First Clermont County Art and Antique Festival planned

Batavia will host the First Annual Clermont County Art and Antique Festival on August 23 with a county wide show. Coordinated by Sandra Carlin of the YWCA the event includes a Junior Art Show and a parade with entries accepted at the Y.

Dual Rites Held For Drowned Kin

Amelia funeral services were held for James Robert 15 and Rose Mary 13 at the Amelia Church of the Nazarene. Burial followed in Greer Mound Cemetery, New Richmond, with E. C. Nurre Funeral Home in charge. The children, children of James Edie, drowned near their Neville summer camp after a swift river current dragged them under. the father narrowly escaped but could not save them.

Carter to Manage Area Water and Sewers

Walter Carter, named sanitary engineer by county commissioners in early 1968, is selected as manager of the county water and sewer district succeeding H. Harlan Mace who resigned in June. The change is projected to save more than $10,000 annually. Carter was approved by Northwestern Mutual Insurance Co and First National Bank of Cincinnati, with bonds held by MGS Water System and Union Township Sewer System. Carter previously served as chief deputy and assistant sanitary engineer since 1956 under Engineer Carl M. Rush.

Milford school board seeks 8-mill levy again

The Milford School District plans to place an 8-mill tax levy on the November general election ballot after a unanimous vote by the Board of Education. Defeated in May, the levy aims to restore cuts and fund salaries, with the district noting $78,800 in program reductions and staff shortages since the previous defeat.

Water Tax Exemption Bill Passes Senate for Tate Monroe System

State Senate approved Massey bill to exempt private water systems including Tate Monroe from real estate taxes. House passage was 78 to 5 on June 17. The measure benefits 13 private systems statewide, with Tate Monroe saving about $35,000 annually. Individual savings estimated at $1 to $2 monthly.

Sewer Service To Be Available At W-T School

Withamsville Tabasco Elementary School is poised to gain sewer service after Kissell Co requested the county to take over the sewer system and treatment plant in Witham Woods Subdivision. County officials will inspect the plant for compliance. if accepted, the system joins the county network and may yield lower rates.
