Ohio District Abolished by County Board Action

Clermont County will eliminate the Ohio Township Rural School District with changes in busing to New Richmond and Amelia. The move affects southern and northern portions, while overall program remains similar for students. A Batavia Playground Fund benefit magic show by the Queen City Mystics is scheduled for July 18 at Batavia School auditorium.

Shotgun Blast Halts Runaway Suspect at Farm

Orville Pellegrini, captured Tuesday on the Herman Weber farm near Branch Hill, is to be returned to the Veterans Hospital in Chillicothe as a mental patient. Sheriff Clyde Dericks and Deputy Marvin Bissantz fired several shots after him as he fled, wounding him slightly with a shotgun blast that finally halted his flight. He had ignored warnings to halt after being found wandering the farm.

Clermont County U S D A Council sponsors a two day farm tour for business and professional people. July 21 stops include John J. Harig and Mrs Fern Hamilton with Dr William Gillespie. July 22 stops feature Collard Deel and Leslie Stroub showcasing dairy cattle, cropping systems, kitchen remodeling, terraces, and modern farming practices.

Champion Winalesby Volzeck, bred and shown by Winalesby Kennels of Batavia, tops Best in Show at Mercer County Show in Pennsylvania on May 30 and Manhattan Square Garden, New York, on June 26. The kennel boasts multiple Best in Show Schnauzers across three generations, marking a historic American achievement in the breed. Volzeck has also claimed five Working Groups, specialty wins, and repeated Best of Breed honors, rivaling famed half-brother Vaaben.

Last week's Courier listed a Batavia house for sale by 8 L. Larkin, Realtor at 11000 dollars. The seven room dwelling actually carried a price of 11500 dollars. the error has been corrected in print.

The Clermont County Society for Infantsile Paralysis met July 12 at Batavia Court House. A treasurer report showed 1051 spent in county work last year. March of Dimes receipts this year totaled 1575.75. Books audited by Jas. Griffith, George Ankermiller, and Mrs. Ann Figgins. Amelia woman bound over in fatal shooting case

Mrs Lucille Gagan of Route 2 Amelia appeared in Batavia on a second degree murder charge after admitting she shot her brother Herman Blandford, 21, in the early hours Tuesday. Blandford had a history of arrests and recent work as a cafe bartender in Mt Holly. Blandford was pronounced dead by Dr V J Sperling after the shooting near his sister's home.
