Carl A. Joseph, 21, an escapee from the Lebanon Correctional Institution, is identified as the assailant in the beating of Martha Ann Wilson and in an armed holdup at Cook Food Market and auto theft. He is at large with three warrants. Detectives link prints to Joseph and owners report a 110 dollar robbery. Village ordinance requires unconnected properties to join the sewer system by January 7, 1962.

Edward Knoechel Jr. 40 of Laurel suffered multiple fractures and head injuries after being struck by a car as he stepped from his vehicle in front of Hartmans Pharmacy Main Street. He was taken to Good Samarite Hospital after emergency care at Our Lady of Mercy. Driver Carl Siegel Hopkins Avenue was cited for leaving the scene of an accident after stopping briefly.

Boy Admits Beating Girl in Batavia Incident
A 15 year old boy is in juvenile detention for beating a 10 year old Batavia girl by the East Fork River on Thursday. Police Chief Ed Colonel arrested him after William Schauer reported the attack. The girl identified the same youth from a prior conversation. The assault left her with facial cuts and bruises. she received treatment at a physician’s office.

Bethel Man Guilty Of Manslaughter In 1960 Crash
Jack Gregory of Bethel was found guilty of second degree manslaughter for a crash on Amelia Olive Branch Road that killed John A. Staton of New Richmond on October 15, 1960. Prosecutors said Gregory drove too fast through a curve, lost control, crossed the center line, and struck an oncoming car. He fled the scene and had no operator's license. The penalty in Ohio carries up to 2 to 10 years in prison.
