Ninety eight crippled children from Hamilton county summer at Lake Allyn in a Rotary camp in Cincinnati area. Rotarians supervise care with nurses and doctors in charge. The camp features screened dormitories, a hospital dining area, a swimming pool, and daily meals and baths.
The State Fair track meets announce a $200000 reserve fund plus entry fees returned pro rata to out-of-town contestants. Athletes may recover at least half of expenses, encouraging participation. Prizes include gold silver bronze medals ribbons six large loving cups and two gold watches. Two meets one amateur open to state and one for all high school men. Event set for Saturday September 8 with Big Six officials secured. Entries via W D Griffith Ohio State Fair Columbus.
The Boston Fair Board met at J. Owensville last Friday and approved plans for a large fair on the grounds. Premium lists are ready for distribution. Call J. E. Christy at Batavia for details.
A public meeting of those with relatives buried in Nicholsville Baptist cemetery Nicholsville Ohio is set for Saturday July 28 1921 at 1 PM. The goal is to devise ways to raise a permanent fund to provide perpetual income to care for the graves and grounds. Committee invites all interested residents.
E. B. Holmes a well known Williamsburg resident suffered a sudden heart problem at home last Thursday evening. Prompt medical aid revived him and he is now much better, with fears of the worst passing.
The Clermont county Democratic figures announce the departure of County Clerk Rolling Coyle on Monday August 1st as Republican Jesse Jordan of Wayne township takes over. Coyle served nineteen years in public office, allied with William Jennings Bryan, and will devote himself to a farm implement and hardware business in Batavia along with auto body painting.
Sharpen the ax for the crowing hen. Poultry men at Ohio State University culling school learned how to identify low producers. Birds that crow instead of laying were shown as examples and should be killed. Thirty seven county agents attended and will demo the method in their communities over the next six weeks.
George W. Wright and his wife Bertha of Edenton filed voluntary petitions in U S District Court. Wright lists liabilities of 14647 and assets 8825 while Bertha lists 11269 liabilities and 9625 assets. Causes cited include inability to meet bills and make collections. Referee Greve of Cincinnati adjudged Chas Schauer, a Edenton grocer, bankrupt.
Clermont county forms a new gas and oil corporation named The Williamsburg Oil and Gas Company with capital of 10000. Promoters listed are J. C. Fuhr J. B. Cover C. H. McNutt J. W. McKinney and R. B. Chappin. Further details to follow.
Last week a road stretch between the bridge and the railroad was overhauled. Broken rock was replaced, screenings added, tarvia applied, and the surface rolled smooth for years of use.
Dr. Coffield of Cincinnati led a Batavia High School clinic for crippled county children. Twelve youths were examined with about three quarters likely to improve or be cured. Red Cross and state officials assisted. funding for treatment remains a concern. County bids on pike sections were awarded to contractors, work to start within two weeks and finish by December 1, 1921. Pershing issued War Risk Insurance support orders to aid ex service members in securing benefits and medical care.
The Harmony Club was entertained by Mrs E Dye on July 7 at Mrs D E Kirgan home. Miss Nellie Malloy and Cecelia Waggel helped serve lemon ice after a delightful day in the shade of the large trees on the lawn. The hosts honored Mrs Kirgan for returning north on July 4 and the gathering included an elegant noon dinner.
Franklin township voters rejected the school house bond by 102 votes amid high total taxes. Taxpayers in the state and county show renewed vigor in voting on measures that raise levies, including 2 mill road and 8 mill school levies and other extras.
The home of Will R. Wilson of the Bell Telephone Co. was found on fire Wednesday evening from a defective flue. Fire and water caused damage, insured. On Thursday, W. F. Roudebush’s farm below town was visited by fire. An eastbound freight train set a wheat field ablaze, destroying the crop and 16 stacks of hay. Dry conditions and sunburned vegetation worsen fire risk.
Township Red Cross Society will meet in the Presbyterian church chapel Batavia on Thursday at 7 o'clock. Members are urged to attend as matters of importance will be discussed.
The big annual outing of the Brown and Clermont county societies will be held at the Cincinnati Zoological Garden on Saturday August 6 1921. Com mittees will furnish tickets and include Batavia Williamsburg Tate Franklin Monroe Ohio Pierce Union Goshen Stonelick Miami and other towns with named reps such as H C Reed J Rapp Chas Curry C H Woodmanseee J Haussermann Ed Tarser and more.
Raymond Blick of Glen Este and Jeannette Liming of Red Bank were wed on July 4 at 11 am on the bride’s porch at Wooster pike Montgomery road. Rev Roughton officiated with Blanche Wortman as bridesmaid and Russel Wortman as best man.
The Point Isabel Christian church marked its 100th anniversary with events from July 8 to 10. Rev. H. McDaniel opened services. July 9 featured reminiscences and a church grounds basket dinner. Rev. A. G. Bagby and Rev. J. F. Burnett led services. the centennial drew strong attendance and interest.
The United Brethren Sunday school picnic for Batavia and Owensville churches will be held on Thursday July 28 at the Boston fair grounds. Everyone is invited to attend.
Marshall Here, Deputy Fire Marshalls L C Strief of Cincinnati and Eugene Hall of Williamsburg inspected Batavia last week to identify fire hazards and remove traps. A return visit is planned next week. Citizens are urged to ensure their business and home are in first class condition and cooperate with the inspectors.
J I Kidd has added a fully equipped bath room to his attractive East End residence and installed town water. H F Buckle contractor notes the improvement.
Bethel Calf and Pig Club hosts Judging Contest at Bethel school grounds with Locust Corner club visiting on July 9. County clubs across Owenville Newtonsville Eleanor Guinea Batavia Goshen and Bethel engage in poultry cattle and pig work with OSU experts at Clermont County Experiment Farm Day plans.
