St Bernadette Summer Festival Plans Big Weekend

St Bernadette festival committee of Ame lia parish hosts a two day event July 14 15 with Arabian Night on Saturday featuring Vincent Sawma the Bing Crosby of the East and Tarbakte drums Asian dancing kebabs games rides and prizes. Sunday offers country style fried chicken ham dinners from noon to 7 PM a Ford Falcon 2 door sedan drawn Sunday and entry in the $1000 monthly award plus a giant fireworks display and free parking at Jenny Lind Road Route 125 location.

Heart Council awards honor Clermont members and clubs

At the Clermont Heart Council meeting June 26 at Batavia Presbyterian Church Dr Sandy Courter shared National Heart Council statistics and Cincinnati research. Jim Hall awarded certificates to many members including Mrs Edwin Bach Mrs Hilda Marideville Mr Grover Clifton and several others. special honors went to Dr Frederick. The next meeting is July 24 at 8 pm in Batavia with Dr Skeen presenting a talk on heart diseases.

Ohio counties show wide variation in per capita debt at end of 1961. Clermont at 220.82 per person below the state average of 245.56. Hamilton tops at 392.89 with Morgan lowest at 34.76. State total debt stands at 497.2 million, about 51.22 per resident.

County Sets 1963 Budget At 990000 Despite Rise Over 1962

County Commissioners adopt a 1963 budget of 990000, 225000 below department requests but 63494 above 1962. A public hearing drew three attendees from the League of Women Voters led by Mrs. Arthur Bachmeyer, with Mrs. James L. Brown and Mrs. Mason Rushey voting approval.

June recording activity shows rise in deeds and mortgages

Recorder William Shebesta reports June totals higher for deeds 282 vs 320 last year and mortgages 284 vs 350, with chattel mortgages 846 up from 775. Valuations reach 3,786,256, fees collected 2,631, and balancing the county’s anticipated income for next year.

Kiwanis Sponsor Civil War Skirmish in New Richmond

The North-South Skirmish Association will host a Midwest regional event in New Richmond with the First Ohio Light Artillery Company and Clermont Countians. The West Clermont Hospital Association hosts a two day benefit in Goshen to raise funds for a new hospital. The event features a Nutty Nine vs Goshen All Stars game and a post game record hop at Goshen Elementary School gym. Proceeds go to the building fund with tickets sold at local stations and markets.

West Clermont School Board approves 1963 budget

The West Clermont Board of Education approved a 1963 budget of 2,597,202 at a Monday meeting. The Amelia elementary site will house a new transportation supervisor Eugene W. Philhower, plus a cafeteria manager and six new teachers. Al Neilers moves to full time buildings and grounds, Helen Cahall named cafeteria manager, with four elementary and four high school teachers still needed.

Clermont Grand Jury Indicts 14 in Two-Day Session

The Clermont County grand jury returned 14 indictments during a two day session this week and did not bring bills in four cases. Indicted were Leslie Brannum for embezzling 1800 dollars. Ray Burden for raping a 14 year old girl. John St Thomas and Robert L. McCord for breaking and entering Daisey Mae s and Lil Abner s Tavern. Sterling Holman and Melvin Rudd for malicious entry to steal a garden tractor. Edwin V Glover and LeRoy Robinson for theft of gas and tools valued at 63 dollars. Thomas Russell for assault. Clifford Raper, Clifford O Reilly, John Miller Jr, and John Carter for failure to provide for minor children. No bills found against George L Peters Jr and Charles Jodrey who were charged with burglary. Edwin L Fiscus for forgery. Barbara McCord for aiding and abetting burglary. The grand jury praised Sheriff Clyde Dericks and the jail matron for orderly conditions and recommended mesh over juvenile window areas. Foreman was William J Bain.
