The County Board of Education met in Batavia with five members present. They rescinded the Teachers Institute and approved a $10 premium for summer Normal school attendees, funded by their employing school. Aultman was authorized to secure a library room, and district lines between Goshen and Miami townships were set as the dividing line for districts. Glancy and Lucy Run schools were disbanded. Greenbriar kept two vacancies. Shirley Griffith received a one year leave to finish her Ohio State degree. Hazel Snyder of Columbus was chosen to direct the Clermont county Normal at Batavia.

Women’s Committee Holds Third District Conference in Cincinnati
The Woman's Committee Ohio Branch Council of National Defense held its third of eight district conferences at the Hotel Gibson in Cincinnati on Tuesday July 9. The committee aims to divide the state into eight districts to improve communication between state department heads and local chairmen and to adapt the committee’s program to local needs. Miss Jennie Penn of Batavia attended the Call No 888 for three colored men to entrain for Camp Sherman July 18. they are ordered to report July 17 at 4 p.m. Names listed include Roy Buell Plumb Savage and William Mortimore Platt with alternates Eugene Graham and Alonzo Moore, all from New Richmond. The boys will report at the Batavia armory.

The county plans a July 30 drive for War Savings Stamps calling 1700 deferred draftees to assemble for organization. Districts will be assigned quotas. T. G. Foster leads with State aid. A 19 foot advertising ball will tour town as the drive proceeds. Several buyers pledge 15 000 to 18 000 dollars in stamps beyond their quota. Government Nitrate Plant Settled for Broadwell Land
The nitrate plant will sit on 1200 acres of Broadwell land bounded by the Batavia pike Little Miami river county line Mt. Carmel pike and Round Bottom road near Newtown Milford Terrace Park and Mt. John R Champ Held on Lunacy Charge After Farm Fire
John R Champ, a Kentuckian bachelor who bought the Lange farm near Owensville last April, was arrested by Sheriff Swing on a lunacy charge after burning his house in the morning. He claimed heavenly voices taunted him and were part of the fire. He was deemed sane at a Saturday hearing and jailed as authorities notify his Kentucky siblings.
